About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To save the world, one poem at a time.

ABOUT ME

I have been teaching high school math and physics for 6 years. I loved it, but now I am going to try something else. I am going to start my new life on a farm in British Columbia. I want to continue to study everything. I want to write poetry. I want to have month long conversations about the universe with people I love. There is simply no time for that in the modern world.
I want to slow down, relax, and stop worrying about my retirement.

PHILOSOPHY

I live for love. I believe there is only love and fear. I have been working to eliminate fear. not all fear, of course (bears can be pretty scary), but fear of things that aren't real, or of things I cannot control anyway. And especially fear of the unknown. It seems to me that in the modern world we live our lives preparing for the future, which we can't know, instead of enjoying the moment we are currently experiencing. I am done with that. We are all going to die, and the universe does not care how we behave while we are alive, so nothing ultimately matters, it only matters in the moment. I try to make the best decisions I can as I encounter different situations, but I know I can't always be right, so I reflect on my experiences and try to use the good and bad choices I have made to improve myself. But no regrets, what's done is done. reflect, but don't live in the past, we must always push forward into the unknown.

well, this could easily turn into a book, but I will leave it there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to this. I have only recently heard of couch surfing from a friend. I am currently on my journey to British Columbia, so I do not have a couch to offer at the present time, but as soon as I do, I will be an eager host. I am hoping to spend some time in Oregon before heading north, and I would also like to explore BC while I am up there. And since what interests me most about any place are the people there, I think couchsurfing is the ideal way to get to know a place. So, right now I am looking for couches, but in the (hopefully) near future I will be able to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never done this before, so no stories yet.

Interests

Basically everything. I want to understand the universe. For me, this includes everything from black holes to love. Right now my main interest is how humans live together, and how we can do it more peacefully, and with less devastation to the environment we depend on.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is powerful. I like all genres, but tend to pick out certain artists and listen to them a lot. Here is a short list of some music that has had an impact on me:
'Everything that Happens Will Happen Today' by David Byrne and Brian Eno

'Aenima' and '10,000 Days' by TOOL.

Early Violent Femmes.

Early Metallica.

'Thick as a Brick' and 'Songs from the Wood' by Jethro Tull.

'Everything that Happens Will Happen Today' by David Byrne and Brian Eno is my new favorite album.

I devour books on just about any topic. science and math have been my focus, but I will read about anything. I don't read much fiction, but 'House of Leaves' by Danielewski and 'Infinite Jest' by Wallace (I am not done with this one yet) I find very intriguing.

I don't watch many movies any more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few days ago I left most of my belongings, my house, and my job to start a new life on a farm in BC. For me, it was a logical choice, but my friends seem to think it is kind of amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to teach; maybe learning is the only thing I like to do more. I have studied a lot of physics and mathematics in my days. I know it well and am anxious to share with those interested.

I would like to learn to play music and speak other languages.
