À propos de moi

I live in the Northern California university town of Davis which is 1/2 way between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. I retired a few years ago and spend my days traveling where I arrange to perform for children ages 2-10 doing storytelling, puppetry, dance, and singing. I also perform at and produce storytelling events for adult audiences throughout the United States. As a professor I had 5 months vacation yearly so I spent much of that time exploring this amazing world. I love adventure traveling and have lived in a cave in the Canary Islands for 6 months, crossed the Sahara Desert, explored the entire length of the Amazon River, hiked the Inca Trail into Macchua Picchua, and kayaked with Killer Whales in the San Juan Islands.
I raised a boy and a girl as a single father and am now blessed with a 13 year old granddaughter and 9 year old grandson who you can see performing with me at his 2nd grade class last year in my profile picture.
I am a rock and wood sculpture collector that is displayed in my home. My traveling buddy just discovered couch surfing a few months ago and want to try it as we travel through Denmark, Sweden, and Norway this summer. We also made ourselves available for hosting.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

I always look forward to meeting people when traveling to share our life experiences and make a deeper connection with the communities I visit. I appreciate "seeing" a new city/country from the viewpoint of people that live there. As a storyteller I especially look forward to hearing "your story". We might even have some adventures together. I travel with my best buddy from high school, Jon Larson, who is a folksinger/bluegrass guitar playing musician extraordinaire who also loves to swap a few stories and share his music. When traveling we perform at house concerts, open mics, festivals, and a good ol' street corner.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Danced with the daughter of the Duke of Arundel in England at a ball held at his castle. I was invited as the date of an American college women along with 5 other couples from the nearby University. This occured at the end of a 2 year soul searching journey through Africa and Europe after finishing my drafted army time during the Vietnam War. I landed a job in Southern England working for 4 Irish men who were building a sewage treatment plant. I was broke and needed enough money for a plane ticket back to Boston so I could hitchhike across the United States to Seattle, Washington to pursue my college degree.
Twenty-seven years later I took my 15 year old son and his buddy on a tour through that castle when we were on vacation in England, Holland, and France. The old butler of the castle was there and he remembered the 5 crazy American couples who snuck into the Dukes pool table room with the Duke's daughter.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can teach the Art of Storytelling for child and adult audiences. I can also share my thoughts about raising children and creating high quality schools including adventure playgrounds.
I want to learn about the history of any area I visit, especially the contributions of underrepresented groups. I am fascinated by what people think about the United States. I want to study the educational and health care system, and what policies they support to protect and enhance the natural environment. I also want to learn about your "backroad" adventure possibilities. We will rent a car and look for unique places to visit "off the beaten path". Unfortunately I can't hike like I used to but I can still go on short foot journeys.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

Many traveling adventures. A vast repetoire of stories especially my favorite, "TALL TALES". If you have children or grandchildren I have many stories, songs, and dance/movement activities I could share with them. My traveling buddy can share many bluegrass/folksongs.
