About Me

I used to use couchsurfing more often but i guess im making a comeback since i wish to travel more and meet with other travelers :)

Quick update:

~ So many things happened since 2020! I did a global exchange semester in South Korea! It was in covid times but still fun. Then graduated (sometimes i thought i wasnt going to but did it lol). Visited many more countries. Lived and worked in Dominican Republic for a TV show- i was watching that show since i was a little kid so little Eda was quite happy. Got bit by a mosquito, stayed in hospital for 10 days, quit my job, returned to Turkiye. Worked in a movie. Decided to take a gap year kinda thing and went to US as an aupair. Lived in Brooklyn for 6 months - then 4 months in New Jersey and i thought it was enough american dream for me (unfortunately hated jersey). Then i came to the Netherlands to do my masters and for some time i guess i’ll be living here.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of my favorite shows as a kid was “Gulhan’s Guide to the Galaxy” - which showed me the world. I was so fascinated that she was travelling all those countries and i was learning about them. I wanted to do that so bad. For some people travelling is easy. As a Turkish person who grew up not wealthy, it was not really an option for me until I was an adult.

I saved up my scholarships when i was in uni - applied for a schengen visa (it was too stressful at that time) - and went to Europe to do Interrail alone. In that trip i met so many people - in hostels - on couchsurfing. We have a saying “Go alone but don’t stay alone”. Every connection was so valuable, it was the most amazing experience for me at that time. And i was so grateful for everyone who had a part in this.

Travelling is something that gives me so much joy, and couchsurfing shows me that there are people out there who are happy to help you on your journey. It is not just about money but also having those pure connections - making lifetime friendships around the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

🎬 I like totally different things all the time. When it comes to my favorite movies, two share the first spot:

-Oldboy (Korean version)
-Call Me by Your Name

so yeah - two completely opposite vibes. Both with great cinematography though. To add, I really adore anything from Wong Kar Wai - Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, Falling Angels… my favorite director.

Another director I’m really impressed with is: Kim Ki Duk (he was not a good person but a great director i would say). His movies are disturbing for some, brilliant to me.

I also really really enjoy cheesy 2000s rom-coms & teen movies 🫠🫠🫠 From Mean Girls to Nothing Hill.. They are my comfort zone.

& whenever i do need a laugh, i watch “This is The End” or “Bridesmaids” - they never disappoint.

🎼 When it comes to music. Same thing literally. I like anything that sounds good to my ears. I listen classical music everyday since it relaxes me. But i also listen Rock, Hiphop, Kpop, Reggaeton… I will say my favorite artist is Eminem since i have a tattoo from his song “Beautiful”.

Other than that, probably i listen Turkish indie - alternative quite a lot. I can share some of my favorites with you :) Currently i listen “Derine” by Palmiyeler on repeat. Also, i must say i love Lana & Billie since im a sad girlie sometimes 😅

📚 I need to improve myself on this part. I start and don’t finish my books most of the time…. I’m trying to read more books lately - especially english novels. My favorite book is:

“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse”

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I booked a flight to Rome when i didnt even have a passport yet. Then I did interrail for 25 days alone. That was my first abroad trip at 19
