ABOUT ME

Right after I graduated from University, I stupidly broke off my relationship and signed up for a high-stress-low-pay job. Soon after the appearance of an apparent “incurable” growth on my jaw had me sick on top of being alone and unhappy. It seemed I was a sucker for suffering.

Like so many others, dreams of seeing the world got me through my days until eventually I had enough, quit the job, fought a heavy medical battle and made plans to see if I truly was the gypsy I imagined in my day dreams.

The word “gypsy” is derived from the Earlier Middle English “Gypcian/Gyptian” which itself is short for the latin “Aegyptius” – the original group of gypsies were wrongly believed to be roamers from Egypt in the middle ages. My love for travelling grew from my adolescent experiences in the land of the Pharaoh, so this dated name for a traveller has stuck in my conscience.

So this is my test! Am I the traveller I see in my dreams? Or will the clash of cultures be too much for this South African farm child to handle?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am still new to couchsurfing, but I have surfed a few times here in Korea and hosted a weary soul or ten!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most surfers who have stayed with me have been great fun! We explored Ulsan together and they returned the favour to me when I visited them in their cities.

兴趣

I crave new experiences. Which has led me to interests in writing, reading and photography. I also love to learn languages, especially those with an interesting or different alphabet.

My body is my by passion and as such I spend way too much time excercising, in the gym, hiking or trail running.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Got kind-of kidnapped and escaped in Bangkok. Got sung happy birthday to at the paws of the great Sphinx. Hiked the Great Wall of China. Saw Geishas in Kyoto. Rode the back of African Elephants in Kruger. Taught amazing kids in Korea. I could go on and on, but I'd prefer to tell you in person!
