About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To resist normalcy, in a good way, for as long as possible.

ABOUT ME

I'm a laid back listener, always ready to dig for a good conversation. I've travelled some, met many, loved a few, and have a great deal of respect for the struggle we all go through. I'm willing to spend the time to have a true interaction.

PHILOSOPHY

"You can't hide from the truth because the truth is all there is." ~ Roisin Murphy of Moloko

I have a duty to the truth. I seek it out and expose it wherever it is. The search for truth is the endeavour that will never finish. I appreciate the timeless yet don't believe in the eternal. Balance and equilibrium are very important.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed first in Alice Springs, Australia in 2009, and again in Rockhampton, and Coffs Harbour. Three great experiences and an incredible template for the type of experience we would like to provide. Have hosted alongside Melissa King in our apartment in Kuwait for a few guests between October 2011 and the present for a stream of great couch surfers. Surfed again in Beirut, Doha, and Muscat in 2012. Been off of Couchsurfing for a little while but beginning again...

Interests

Mostly good stories in the form of books, films, and social interactions. Fiction and non-fiction are equally welcomed. World issues, science, technology, art and design, and most anything pleasing to the mind's eye.

Music, Movies, and Books

Naomi Klein, Margaret Atwood, Ayn Rand, George Orwell, Suzanne Collins's _Hunger Games_, Jared Diamond, Samantha Power, _Calvin and Hobbes_ by Bill Watterson, various Marvel comic books from the 80s and 90s, Aldous Huxley.

The Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, films noir, and anything with a great twist at the end. See also Christopher McQuarrie and Rian Johnson. Recently Timbuktu and Incendies have really caught my attention.

It's been a while since I've picked up new music that I love. I'm anticipating my first listen to the first album from Flight Facilities. I also enjoy the Roots, Flying Lotus, Portishead, and remixes by Zeds Dead. Godspeed you! Black Emperor fits somewhere, as does a Cinematic Orchestra.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I escaped climbing the corporate ladder in favour of teaching.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm something of an contemporary history buff. The crossroads of film, history, and current events. If I could build a course of study, it would surround that knowledge.
