About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning more about the world, rounding out the person I want to be, and opening my mind to new experiences

ABOUT ME

My name is Eirene and I just completed a year as a Fulbright English teacher in Khabarovsk, Russia, about 30 miles from the Sino-Russian border. Having grown up in a Chinese family in Montreal and Washington D.C., I've always been fascinated by languages and cultures. I speak 5 languages, have traveled and lived in 15 countries, and hope to count many more adventures to come.

PHILOSOPHY

"Whether you can or cannot do it, you are absolutely right."

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude about it. Don't complain." Maya Angelou

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently staying in New York City and am hoping to make some friends while here.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't personally Couchsurfed yet, but I have met many wonderful and interesting people over the years who have. I'm looking forward to making new and meaningful connections.

Interests

I love the arts, including drawing, writing, playing piano, and cooking.

I also enjoy the humanities; in college I majored in Black Studies (similar to Africana Studies, or a combination of African, Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean, and Diaspora Studies). I have studied over five languages and continue building upon these every day.

Though I didn't do much of this in college, I am still drawn to quantitative fields. My favorite subject in HS was Calculus and I'm hoping to pick up some more computer skills in the near future.

Outside of academics, I enjoy walking and biking, especially on new trails where there's still plenty to discover. I appreciate a good meal and a deep conversation, and one of my favorite things to see is a deep, rosy sunset.
