CURRENT MISSION
Seattle to Denver, superawesome road trip
ABOUT ME
Technically I'm younger than the age limit specifies (I'm only 17) but I'll be damned if I let that stop me from going on a superb adventure. I graduated the International Baccalaureate program at my high school and am currently accepted into Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; this summer I wanted to get in some traveling, see the west coast, with someone I met by coincidence a few months ago who has a similar interest.
I have strong synaesthesia and can feel sound, which has led me on an endless quest for audio equipment that can make the sounds I want to hear and make them beautifully. I've messed with sound editors (mostly FL Studio 9) and I have a lot of fun writing trance/techno and doing covers of other people's work, even though I'm only an amateur at best. I might provide a link one of these days to some of my work, when I think it's ready.
I'm a writer, and I write a lot. I spent a good portion of my senior year writing stories in order to survive the boredom of classes, and I've written several novels for NaNoWriMo (all of them crap, so I probably won't be posting any of that anytime soon :P). I write because I want to, not because I'm good at it.
I read extensively and it's mostly nonfiction. My latest few reads have been Gödel, Escher, Bach and The Blank Slate. I love me some philosophy and psychology, but my true interests lie in the sciences. I want to build brain-computer interface devices someday in order to integrate cybernetic enhancements into the human body. It's a long term goal that requires a lot of devotion and even more time, but I'm up to the challenge.
I can be single minded at times, and because of this I come off as blunt or unfriendly; I don't mean it! I just like to get down to business, and I probably take myself too seriously. But that's what this road trip/couchsurfing adventure is for: loosening up a bit and having an adventure.
PHILOSOPHY
I could write an essay about this... I'll keep it to two brief examples with a unifier at the end.
First, if you haven't already, familiarize yourself with chaos theory and its butterfly example. A butterfly flaps its wings in Chicago and causes a hurricane in Florida, because that one butterfly flapped its wings and affected the wind currents all the way to a hurricane that was just about to form. In this example, I call attention to the broad implications of all actions, and how there are billions of butterflies at any given moment, all flapping their wings.
Next, you'll need to understand a bit about physics. Energy manifests with a wavelength, and a frequency. Sound waves are a type of wave, formed by compression and expansion of the air. In an instrument with a tube, such as for simplicity's sake a pipe organ, the length of the pipe determines the wavelength of wave emitted by the pipe, based on math you don't need to know. However, for each wave that is created by the pipe, there's another smaller wave that can be created, with a shorter wavelength and a higher frequency, and overall more oscillating bits. These higher frequency, shorter waves are called fundamental harmonics. The third fundamental harmonic fits three wavelengths into a pipe. The fiftieth fits fifty. This example serves to demonstrate that even large waves can be compressed into smaller waves that have less impact, pretty much infinitely.
As a summary, all our actions have countless effects, and each effect can be broken down into a practically limitless number of smaller effects. Most important is the recognition that the universe operates in waves, in oscillations, and based on principals of resonance. It's a complicated philosophy that I'll discuss with anyone if they want, just drop me an email at creatureman@gmail.com with the subject line "Couch Surfing Philosophy."

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Currently, I'm just a surfer. If I like what I see (and it's already made a very compelling case) I'll try to open my home up in the future when I have a home to open.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
This will be my first time, so I'll fill this in some more when I've had experience!

I once was selected by the People to People Student Ambassador Program to go to Hawaii. It was one of the best times I've ever had. I was ten. It showed me how much of the world there was to see out there.

I have a unique worldview. It's not much, but I think that self-knowledge is the key to happiness.
I want to know about anything and everything!
