关于我

CURRENT MISSION

To travel a big spiral-like figure on the map of Poland.

ABOUT ME

I really like to see how things in life connect and fit together, how every academic or artistic subject is just a different way to try and get at the heart of reality. Physicists use numbers and theories, artists use paint and canvas, philosophers use words, and still nobody knows exactly what's going on. We're all like a big pack of dogs, sniffing at the kitchen door, trying to figure out where that delicious smell is coming from.

I was born and grew up in Denver, Colorado and therefore have come to love the outdoors- backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, etc. During high school I sang in choir and played in student bands all the time. I studied music for a year and a half at the University of Miami, but in the fall I'll be transfering to Wesleyan University to study Physics. I love people, ideas, and the entire prospect of living life. Oh, and a good party is never amiss.

From June 6th to July 31st, I'm in Poland, first working on an organic farm near Slubice and then traveling to experience the wonderful history and culture of this country.

I'm just like this litttle kid and I want to see the big, wide world around me.

PHILOSOPHY

The human experience is inherently bewildering. That's why all we can do is laugh and try to do some good. Creating is also very important, whether it be art, music, food, killer dance moves...

音乐、电影和书籍

Music and literature have been a huge part of my life. As a music major, I've had the incredible resources to be exposed to tons of genres and artists. Some of my favorites: Bill Frisell, The Krakow Klezmer Band, Johannes Brahms, Antonin Dvorak, Cannonball Adderly, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikowsky, Ganucheau, Rx Bandits, Max Richter, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, Pink Floyd, Geographer, Ra Ra Riot, CLiff Martinez (Solaris sountrack anyone?), Death Cab, Postal Service, Bear Hands, Beach House, Chromeo, Dino Saluzzi & Anja Lechner, Discovery, Eric Whitacre, Sinatra, Telefon Tel Aviv, Hank Mobley, Bird, Jim Hall, Jimmy Rosenberg, Bireli Lagrene, John Legend, Kashiwa Daisuke, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson, The Morning Benders, Passion Pit, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Phish, Ratatat, Sea Wolf, Sigur Ros, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Vampire Weekend, Brian Eno, Grizzly Bear... too many.

Literature: House of Leaves is probably my favorite book of all time- if you haven't read it, it'll change the way you see the world. Close seconds include Crime and Punishment, anything by Kurt Vonnegut, The Critique of Pure Reason (the parts I understood), Only Revolutions, Heart of Darkness, A Brief History of Time, "Good Old Neon"- actually a short story, but David Foster Wallace was a genius, "Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass" (also a short story), The Brothers Karamazov, Desolation Angels and The Dharma Bums (both better than On the Road i think), The Stranger, The Fountainhead, I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot.

Movies: Lost in Translation, Stalker, Children of Men, Garden State, Inglorious Basterds, South Park (TV Show), The Daily Show with John Stewart (TV show), Juno, Senecdochy New York, Apocalypse Now, Moon, Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist (I'm almost ashamed about that one, but I have to be honest).

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Helped a refugee family from the Democratic Republic of the Congo pick out a vacuum cleaner at Goodwill.

教,学,和分享

My main teachable or shareable asset, I suppose, would be music. I've played guitar and sung almost since I was in diapers and I studied three semesters of jazz guitar at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. I love to teach people music, because of it's immediate ability to bring happiness and connect you to others.

Other than that, I'm a big fan of practicing Spanish (or English for that matter) with people. Also, I read a good deal and try to do a bit of philosophizing. So, if you're into that, let's talk. If you're not, lets still talk.

I'm way down to learn anything you can teach me.
