Hey, I'm Elena! I'm a moderately broke college student who loves to travel and meet people along the way studying earth systems and philosophy at Stanford.

My life is all about chasing curiosity, acquiring knowledge, and experiencing new and interesting things. I like many things but do nothing very well. I like to hike, scuba dive, cycle and camp. I like to try to play ukulele and harmonica and make jam and sourdough. In the past year, I soaked in the blistering warmth of rural Malawi for a summer, studied abroad on an ecological kibbutz in the desert of Israel, attempted to be a real adult working a 9-5 in corporate sustainability in San Francisco, researched coral reef resiliency to climate change in Palau, tromped through Vietnam and cycled across soggy Scotland with a dumpster-diving, self-organized, anarchist bike tour. The desire to consistently challenge and expose myself to new ideas informs my work and helps me grow as a person--and takes me all over the world(:

I have learned so much from meeting people around the world. The ability to leave home is a privilege, and I want to do my best to show up in new spaces in the best way I can. Part of that to me means engaging with people who live in and care about the places I land--hearing their stories, sharing our food and music, and giving a helping hand when needed. I find that the friends that I have collected over my years are my personal collection of tender souls, of people that make the world right, and I would love to meet more people to add to this collection. Couchsurfing opens up so many opportunities for this kind of experience.
