Enjoying a few months of extravagant and irresponsible life in Barcelona after a year of constant travelling…..stretching my meagre savings to their limits.
Last year I was resentfully struggling through a conventional life of university study and mundane work to pay my inconvenient bills. It was soul-destroying and ridiculous and getting me further and further into depression and debt. Luckily I eventually realised this fact (better late than never) and left all that nonsense last July to be a wandering gypsy again, armed with an impractical backpack, a tiny tent and a ukulele. I bought a one way ticket to London then walked my first Camino de Santiago (amazing!), floated around Europe and Morocco for a few more months then felt the pull off the Camino again. After walking the via de la plata from Sevilla and then volunteering in Andalucia, I felt the need for a home again, somewhere to recharge and reflect and repose….so wound up in Barcelona this July, surrounded by other dreamers and musos and swing dancers, and now just wishing my dwindling savings would last…

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love meeting like-minded people on my adventures, whether it's fellow wayfarers or lovely hosts! I think couchsurfing should be a beneficial exchange for both parties....it's still nice being part of other people's travel experiences by hosting them. I love the exchange of ideas and stories and perspectives that goes both ways.
I haven't done much couchsurfing on my travels so far, mostly because I'm incredibly disorganised and don't ever have set travel plans. But when I have got my shit together, it's been great! Mostly I go to CS events which is always lots of fun.
I'm all about creative ways of expanding my mind and spirit...MUSIC, metaphysics, learning languages, travelling, art, dancing, yoga, meditation, singing, writing, poi, nature, and non-ordinary states of existence....I love playing guitar and mandolin, meeting new people, vegan/vegetarian food, getting hysterical, crafternoons
Music, Movies, and Books
To hear: Music is an extreme though healthy obsession of mine, so there´s too much to mention here....but a few mind-altering favourites are Beirut, Atahualpa Yupanqi, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Satie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bon Iver, Leonard Cohen, Billie Holiday, Jeff Buckley, Chopin, David Bowie, Ella Fitzgerald....I really love folk and world music, old blues and classical, and I think WOMAD is the greatest festival ever.
To read: things like Alan Watts, Oscar Wilde, Pablo Neruda, Octavio Paz, Eckhart Tolle and the like......but I write more often than I read.
To watch: anything by Louis Theroux, David Lynch, David Attenborough, and brilliantly awkward comedies like Peep Show (the best!), Jam, Summer Heights High, Frisky Dingo, etc etc....and all sort of mindblowing documentaries that remind me how little I really know about this crazy illusion of reality I participate in
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The Gibbon Experience in Laos was ridiculously cool - zooming along huge ziplines through the jungle and sleeping in amazing treehuts at night.
