Goodness, I need a place to stay

ABOUT ME

I am the divorced mother of two teenage boys. I had to read that sentence a couple times after I wrote it -- it sounds so stark. Inadequate. But true. I am a professional copyeditor and writer, but I also manage a farmers market, cook, sew, can, and dance. I have a weakness for cheesy movies and raunchy stand-up, foie gras and frites, green beans and pickled snap peas. Everything comes back to food.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm a big believer in the Golden Rule. I try hard to treat people as I would want to be treated: with respect.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in a tiny cottage in the middle of a large city, so I have had to build my own community. My neighbors and I have a very olde worlde relationship, more than just borrowing a cup of sugar over the fence. We are in each others' kitchens. I like that.

None! Though I have spent time on my own couch...

Right now I am reading "An Everlasting Meal," but prior to that I was going through a phase of what I call comfort reading. That's where I read books I know well and know I love, like anything by Arthur Ransome or Dickens.

I have given birth. Twice. And then raised two phenomenal human beings into almost-adulthood. I realize that this is not a unique accomplishment, but it was life-changing and, yes, amazing.

I'm wicked good at making preserves and pickles. I can sew pretty well, and I am an excellent cook. I find all these things fun, which makes them fun to teach.
