ABOUT ME
After leading a life mostly guided by whims and coincidences, I am now a dedicated art student. I have been accepted to a couple of MFA programs, starting in August of 2013. Woooooeeeee!
PHILOSOPHY
Be kind.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Just had my first experience in Chicago as a surfer. It was wonderful. This is a great thing. I can't host people to stay at my home in New Mexico, but hopefully when I move in August to Chicago, I can. But at the very least, I can give you the run-down on Southwestern New Mexico if you are in the area. I've only lived here a few years and have been going to school the whole time non-stop, so I don't have the knowledge of a native, but I can give you some tips. There are a lot of hot springs around here, for instance. :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Just once so far. Couchsurfing rocks!
Interests
I sculpt in steel, plus make video, sound art... I love swimming and canoeing, of which there is not a lot of opportunity to do in New Mexico. Also, I'm really into learning about the origins of the universe. I know that sounds weird. But there are some really interesting breakthroughs happening these days in that area. It's weird how astrophysics and quantum physics are so related. I wish I had studied science more when I was younger, but there is a lot of information out there for the layperson (read: me) now that is really accessible and amazing to read.

Music, Movies, and Books
Books. Well, mostly I read textbooks nowadays. I read lots of books about basic electronics, programming, mechanics, digital art techniques... But fiction... not a lot of time for that right now.... All right, I'll just admit it - when I do read the stuff, I like best-selling page turners (Girl With a Dragon Tattoo) when I actually sit down to read. And movies - I tend to like funny. Clever funny. Stupid funny. Does not matter. I like thrillers/action/sci-fi movies too, but not if they are too scary. I'm a softie.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Being an exchange student in Chile for my first undergrad was fantastic. I was able to do an internship as a photojournalist that was really, really cool.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a little bit about programming for interactive art. Some of you may have heard of the Arduino microcontroller, or the Java-based open source "Processing" language. Really, I only know a little bit about these things now - but they are fast becoming a major part of my art and I would love to talk about art & technology with anyone who is interested.
