About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Living and working in Vietnam... and loving every second!
ABOUT ME
I am extremely optimistic, I love to laugh, eat, cook, learn, read, explore, and meet new people! I think the world is an incredible place and the people in it are even more incredible. I believe that the only thing that divides people is their own fears or insecurities. A border is just a line on a map and a language barrier is only a barrier to those who don't try. I want to be brave and exciting and meet interesting people! Let's go!
PHILOSOPHY
You only live once, so make your life completely your own. Live for you- and whether this means spending days on end reading a good book or thrill seeking around every corner, make sure your time on this planet is entirely memorable. I believe in trying everything at least once, and trying the fun stuff twice! I believe in living for yourself (see above) but also doing good for others. I have strong opinions on equality and I pride myself in being accepting of mostly everything and everyone (I say mostly because I don't know how I'd react to something I haven't yet experienced). Long story short- Be a good person and have a good time (whatever that means to you)!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've met up with people using CS and I have hosted a couple people. As well, I've couch surfed myself whilst travelling with my sister. Everyone I've met through CS has been wonderful and with our upcoming trip, I hope to meet many more wonderful people :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've met very friendly and inviting people through CS- nothing but good things to say!
Interests
Meeting new people and seeing new things are two things that are always on my interests list. Besides that, I've had varying interests over the years...From improvisational comedy to baking, reading to running, learning a language to wanting to teach it myself, rock climbing to ocean swims, I've definitely dabbled in many things and couldn't be more open to dabbling in many more!
Music, Movies, and Books
It would be easier to list books i'm not interested in. I love to read.
My music taste is super varied--love me some classics, as well as new stuff. Movies are lovely. Even bad movies are fun to watch. If I had to pick a favourite movie I'd say Chinatown with Jack Nicholson. It's a good'un.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I studied abroad in Spain and showed up without a place to stay or a friend in the world. I just wandered out of the bus station and made my way. It gave me the confidence in my ability to be independent and the courage to travel alone.
Two years later I studied abroad again in England, this time with my sister (and best friend). Before our studies we took a month to travel around the UK and Ireland, spontaneously deciding where we wanted to go on the days' whims. I list this as an amazing thing because I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to travel with my sister, and although I hope to have that chance again, the way life moves people around is mysterious and unpredictable.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am certified to teach English as a second language and slightly nerdy for grammar, and I'd happily participate in a language exchange. I also love cooking/baking and I especially love sharing with others my American/Canadian cuisine. Everyone has something to give, I imagine there are things I could teach others that I haven't mentioned here...only time will tell!
I would love to learn anything you would teach me! I'm interested in learning about different cultures (perhaps we could make a meal?) or other languages- but anything really. I believe I mentioned this earlier: I am really truly not picky!
