About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Proust says “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” I have new eyes for new landscapes, suckers!

ABOUT ME

Interested in almost everything, generally busy, but manage to find time for anyone. Talkative, with an idealistic outlook complimented by happily dry British cynicism.

PHILOSOPHY

Charity starts at home

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

All good so far, and especially enriching, ignore this website at your peril!

Interests

Books (I used to work in publishing, so the whole reading thing is a given); music (lots, varied. From 70s folk to Laura Marlin; from Haim to Fleetwood Mac; from Roots Manuva to Souls of Mischief; from Sublime to Harper's Bazaar; from Daddy Yankee to Papa's Got a Brand New Bag); theatre; rock climbing; cycling; dancing badly; yoga; goofing around.

Music, Movies, and Books

A varied taste in music, albeit mood dependant.
Movies: I have a soft spot for Grease 2, for which I am subjected to constant raillery, and enjoyed the Fighter, Sunshine Cleaning (a fan of Amy Adams), Magnolia, Amores Perros, Angels in America (miniseries count?), and especially There Will Be Blood and the three burials of melquiades estrada.
And Books: I have a broad (when quizzed, it is maybe not very deep) knowledge of bookish things. Things that further come to mind are: Pynchon, Roth, Kundera, Erdrich, Auster, Cormac McCarthy, Leonora Carrington, Malamud, Arundhati Roy...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on a desert island for 2.5 months!

Teach, Learn, Share

Wine bottle corks are made from the bark of Cork trees, which are like Oak trees and have acorns, but aren't Oak trees (they're not just made of mashed up wood!). Like hedgehog spines and Sea urchin spines are analogous, and Starfish eat mussels! Who knew?

What I Can Share with Hosts

A warm personality; respect of them, their culture, their space; rule-following; friendship.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Laos, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, United States, Viet Nam, Wales

Countries I’ve Lived In

Cook Islands, United Kingdom
