About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live, and let live.

ABOUT ME

An almost funny chap. Almost! So I almost had a good sense of humour, and I crack jokes that are almost funny. Almost very passionate about the arts! (To see my work visit my website: www.eliotmoleba.com)

I am a South African artist who has recently relocated from Johannesburg to Oslo to do my PhD in Theatre Studies. I have visited Oslo several times before but this is the first time I will be doing such a long stay. And since I am relatively new, I wouldn't mind some company from locals and visitors alike. I will always welcome\appreciate invites to the theatre, cinema, hiking, dinners, chilling, exhibitions, music events, comedy shows, etc.

For those looking for a host:
I am not Norwegian. I also can't speak the Norwegian language yet. I am new to Oslo, which obviously means that if you are looking for a 'local' experience or someone who knows the city well, I am NOT your guy. If we have time to hangout then my couch often comes with a very South Africanised experience of Oslo. I know that this is not for everyone (which makes sense). If you are looking for a local, Norwegian experience - I get it, I really do, That's why I will encourage you to find a Norwegian host instead.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is for the living, so live it or you're better off dead!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When you surf, you meet the world.
When you host, the world meets you.
But either way, you are always travelling. And the journey we take through our eyes and the eyes of others who share their stories with us is always the most beautiful lived poetry there ever was, ever is, and ever will be.

I have travelled to a small garden in Italy, where a little girl recited sweet lullabies to her dolls; I have travelled to a street in Turkey, where an old man holds 5 decades worth of memories about his city, a living library that breathes history into the present; I have travelled to a living room in Paris, where a young lady fondly remembers how she used to dance with her late mother, and in her happy voice you can still hear a dear longing, the quietest heartbreak untold; I have travelled to a bar in a small German town, where a young man offers another man beer and unknown to them at that moment, that this would be the beginning of a friendship of a lifetime; I have travelled to a park in Iraq, where amidst the bombings and shootings, a boy falls in love; I have travelled to a club in Kenya, where a lady's hips knows how make love to a beat all night long; I have travelled to an airport in Greece, where a young man is excited to start a new life journey abroad, a chance to create a new story; I have travelled to the most famous restaurant in a rural village in India, where a young boy discovers the secret ancient family spices of a happy life (and meal); I have travelled to a city in Germany, where a young lady discovers the pain of losing a grandparent, and how strong her heart is; I have travelled to a street in LA, where a black lady discovers that being colour blind is a thing that could get you killed as a black child in the US.

I have travelled to all these places and more, without ever leaving my house.

Interests

Writing, making films, meeting new people, going to exhibitions, visiting art galleries, rehearsing, watching shows, sports and partying.

I recently became quite hooked to eating delicious food from different cultures made by the guests I host. So now I have decided to make it a new tradition. If you want my couch, you will have to bring your culinary skills to the kitchen with you. I look forward to eating delicious food from your culture!
