About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be a hobbit.

ABOUT ME

Shoes don't like my feet. I like the licorice jellybeans, but I don't like the other kinds. I've never eaten at McDonald's. I'm hopelessly addicted to coffee. Grammatical errors reduce my faith in humanity. I grew up in a town with no stoplights. I am not a good driver. Someday, I want to own a hedgehog. I find pelicans comical. Plastic people distress me. I think that friendship is the most valuable resource in existence, and am grateful for its infinite renewability. I hate doing math problems. I've never owned a television. If I know you, I probably like you. If I don't know you, I probably want to.

PHILOSOPHY

I have no intention of tiptoeing carefully through life to arrive safely at death. In fact, I intend to stomp clumsily all over the world, and hopefully the world will forgive me for it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I plan to just surf for now, since I don't really have a couch to host people at this point in my life. I love the couchsurfing project though, and plan to host as soon as I have the means.

Interests

I'm interested in any manifestation of fantastic, whimsical, profound, or powerful thought. I am interested in the true nature of success, love, happiness, and wealth. I am interested in constant exploration; the world is a museum with perpetually changing exhibits--look twice at something and it is not the same. I am interested in nature's effect on humans and humans' effect on nature. I am interested in experiencing every possible nuance of the world in every possible way, be it on foot, by bus, by bicycle, via parachute, or through a scuba mask. I am interested in life, and everything it has to offer, because everything teach me something and I am eager to learn.

Music, Movies, and Books

Television/Movies: British comedy, campy cult shows, foreign films, intelligent dramas, and the occasional sinfully sophomoric comedy.
Music: My musical tastes are extremely diverse. If it is genuine, well-composed, original, and interesting, I will appreciate it.
Books: Terry Pratchett, Dave Barry, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, George Orwell, Michael Pollan, Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, Eric Schlosser, J.R.R. Tolkein...so many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed a mountain. Avalanche Peak, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 10,566 feet above sea level. Not a grandiose accomplishment in terms of mountain-climbing, but the experience inspires me to try new things almost daily.

Teach, Learn, Share

Having been raised in a rural area by parents who were very conscious of environmental issues, I am well-trained in sustainable living. I am a competent gardener, as well as an informed consumer. I can cook whole foods from scratch, and I know how to can and pickle fruits and vegetables.

As far as other skills, I can play piano and flute, and I can knit and crochet. And I can do a somersault, but I'm not sure that's worth much.
