About Me
Please note: I will be away from the 20th March - 12th of April so I cannot host during this time.
My name is Elly and I recently moved to Berlin with my girlfriend Maja. We get many requests and we really appreciate people who actually read our profiles, so if you would like to stay with us please include this phrase in your message request: "Ich will keine Winter mehr"
I recently (2016) graduated university, got a job, quit my job, traveled a bit, hitch hiked a bit, slept on couches a bit, and now I live in Berlin. I consider myself to be a very open-minded person who likes to meet people from all walks of life.
I really like illustration and art, and am really interested in learning about art and artists from different places around the world. I also have a very deep love for music. Sharing music and learning about new bands is one of my favourite things to do. So if you are also a music lover, we will get along. I play a couple of instruments as well, like the guitar and saxophone, and I sing a lot.
I am a vegetarian and I care a lot about the environment. I don't understand the internet's chicken nugget obsession. I do understand anyone who is obsessed with the work of Patti Smith.
In case you are interested I am a sun Taurus, moon Sagittarius, and Aquarius rising. Do what you will with that information.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I first started travelling I had heard really amazing things from other travellers about their experience with Couchsurfing. It sounded like a really rewarding and authentic way to experience a place and meet other people, so I thought I should give it a go. I did, and it was everything like people said.
Now that I have a place for a little while, I would like to offer my own space for travellers.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love many genres of music, so it's hard to narrow it down. But I very much enjoy alternative rock, indie, punk, shoe-gaze, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, grunge, garage, folk, psychedelic music, some pop music ... basically anything and everything. Of course, I live in Berlin, so I don't mind techno either. And in case it wasn't obvious before, I love Patti Smith.
I like many films. Some that are close to my heart include the Royal Tenenbaums, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Studio Ghibli films, and pretty much anything with Winona Ryder. Mostly I really enjoy documentaries and interesting films.
As for books, some books I've read that I really like are The Corrections, Middlesex, The Bell Jar, Wuthering Heights, Letters to a Young Poet, and Just Kids (Also M Train). Currently I'm reading the Unbearable Lightness of Being.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Some things that I've done that I think are amazing:
- Hitch hiked from the south of Spain to Berlin
- Directed a youth theatre group in Romania and wrote a play for them (thus technically becoming a playwright in Romania)
- Fallen in love
- Interviewed a Ramone
- Moved to Berlin
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm not sure what I can teach you, but I can share some of my favourite music! I'm also a great listener, or so I've been told.
I am fully accepting of any new wisdom or skills that people would like to pass onto others. Also, if you like illustrations, zines, or mini-comics then I can share some of my work with you (and vice versa of course).
What I Can Share with Hosts
A good sense of humour and some some really dumb stories. I can also draw you a picture if you like.
