Interests

Photography, cooking, and food. I prefer things off the beaten path and away from the tourists. I'm very big on culinary tourism and I always enjoy going to the local markets, tasting local foods, and learning the local food culture.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Kamakura, the guesthouse owner's wife cooked us a phenomenal homecooked meal in their irori (いろり), a fire pit in the middle of their living room. The owner skewered some fresh horse mackerel (鯵) and roasted it over the hot coals with some sea salt. Best meal of my life. I'll never forget the image of the owners, their little daughter, and all the guests keeping warm by the irori, rotating the fish around the coals so they cook evenly.
