About Me

September 2021 update:
I was not confident that trans-Atlantic travel would be allowed, but I am in Europe for the entirety of the month. If you’re in Spain, Lanzarote, Amsterdam, or London, hit me up.
About Me
Originally from Iowa, I am a philosophy grad student, data scientist, and dog owner living in Seattle. Currently reading all sorts of books and love talking about literature.
I am currently not hosting or staying with anyone out of an abundance of caution due to covid, but am happy to meet up. If you’re in Seattle, you have picked a beautiful city with some pretty spectacular outdoors with parks, islands, and mountains. I am happy to show it to you with my dog Sterling.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For the past couple of years, I have found myself seeking out being a tour guide to those who visit my city; I love showing great aspects of the Pacific Northwest to fresh eyes, and being challenged to see new things that I hadn't thought of.
I'm also going to Europe in September and would greatly benefit from local insights on what to see.
Please note: I don’t use Couchsurfing like tinder. You will be disappointed if you expect to hook up.

Music, Movies, and Books
I strongly recommend this book to everyone who wants to see their mind flourish during lockdown; "A Gentleman in Moscow" is the elegant telling of a Russian aristocrat who finds beauty in life while under house arrest during the Bolshevik revolution.
I enjoy reading philosophy ranging from classic to modern. I’m currently on an existentialist tear through Kierkegaard and Sartre as I’m working on a paper on the absurd.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Diving in lava tunnels off the coast of Isabela Island, Galapagos with white-tipped sharks. Or subsequently surfing, and seeing sea lions playfully corkscrew in the wave behind me.
Teach, Learn, Share
I build AI professionally, and study in graduate school the cognitivist assumptions made in software engineering. We can talk about the influence of Aristotelian logic, the metaphysics of quantum computing, or just talk go on a walk and talk about culture or cool plants. I like listening too.
I can also cook dishes from all over the world--my favorites are the vegan recipes that are as much of a revelation as any meat dish. (I have a Siberian fennel chutney that goes great on any fish.)
I also love going on long, 420-friendly walks and discussing the pandemonium of happiness in this unique, chaotic world in which we find ourselves. We'll find something to do.
What I Can Share with Hosts
