About Me

*May update*☀️

Hi! I’m Emilien—but everyone calls me Emil. I’m curious by nature and always up for discovering new cultures, countries, landscapes… and snacks. 😋

There’s a photo of me on here as a baby covered in chocolate, and honestly, not much has changed 🍫—I still love sweet things, messy adventures, and meeting new people. I recently spent five months in Indonesia for a volunteering project where I made great friends, learned a lot, and ended up hanging out with some cool Germans who convinced me that Germany *needs* to be my next stop.

Before I head back to finish my final years of engineering studies and join the mysterious land of "adult jobs," I want to explore Germany, meet locals, and enjoy the ride. I’m always down to swap stories, cook something together (or try!), and share laughs with new people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, traveling is all about meeting people and experiencing everyday life in a new place—not checking off tourist hotspots (I actually try to avoid those when I can).

I’m on Couchsurfing because I love the idea of sharing stories, meals, and moments with locals and fellow travelers. It’s the kind of travel that feels real and personal. After spending 5 months volunteering in Indonesia and meeting people from all over the world, I realized that human connection is the part of travel I enjoy the most.

Plus, hotels don’t introduce you to their friends, cook with you, or take you to their favorite hidden places—and that’s what makes a trip unforgettable.

Interests

I’m into a mix of things that make life tasty, thoughtful, and a little nerdy—in the best way.

🍜 Food : Cooking it, eating it, sharing it. I believe good conversations often start with a plate of something delicious.

🌌 Stars : Not the celebrity kind (though I won’t say no to a good movie), but the ones up in the sky. I love stargazing and thinking about our place in the universe.

🎶 Music : Always playing something, from chill playlists to random danceable tunes. I love discovering new genres and sharing tracks with others.

🎮 Video Games : I’m into games that tell great stories or just let you escape for a while. Bonus points if it’s co-op!

🌱 Ecology and Science : I care deeply about the planet and love learning how things work. From climate topics to cool tech, I’m all in.

♀️ Feminism : Equality matters to me, and I enjoy talking with people who challenge norms and care about making the world fairer for everyone. Always open to learn new things on this topic.

If you’re into any of these too—or want to teach me something totally new—I’m all ears.

Music, Movies, and Books

🎵 Music : I’ve always been a fan of rap especially when it has a political edge or some meaningful message but lately I’ve been vibing more with electro.

📚 Books : For the ones I actually manage to finish, I tend to go for political books, mostly left-wing, and personal growth reads. I like books that make me think and maybe even change a bit.

🎬 Films : Horror isn’t really my thing. I prefer movies with deep stories that stick with you, like Interstellar, films that make you question things and leave you reflecting long after the credits roll.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One week on Pulau Temparat, a deserted island in indonesia that you can walk around in 45 minutes, it was a crazy spiritual retreat.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everything is about exchange—we teach, we learn, and we share, often all at once.

Technically, I "could" try to explain something complicated from engineering school, like how materials resist different forces or how atoms arrange themselves in a thermosetting plastic under tension… but let's be real, I barely remember that myself, and I doubt it’s useful around the dinner table. I can also show you a couple of guitar songs but fair warning, I only remember two !

What I "can" offer instead is a good conversation, a few French words (or slang), travel stories, music recommendations, and maybe a decent meal if we cook together. I’m always curious to learn about your culture, your views, your go-to comfort food, or even your weirdest life hacks.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’m grateful for any hospitality and always try to give back in my own way. I can share stories from my travels and life experiences, cook a meal, and bring a positive, open-minded vibe to our time together. I’m happy to help around the house or with small tasks, and I’m always up for good conversation, whether it’s about culture, music, or whatever comes up. Basically, I aim to be a respectful, friendly guest who makes hosting enjoyable and memorable.
