关于我
We are two extroverted, adventure-loving Americans who recently moved from Texas to Paris! We look forward to eventually hosting, but are in an airbnb until we find a more permanent home. Emily is attending theatre school (Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq) and Kellen is an audio engineer looking to make a career shift to the culinary arts! We love spending time outdoors, learning new recipes, drinking great wine, and hearing about your culture. Kellen is from Florida and Emily was born in Nebraska but has spent the majority of her professional career in New York City. We are both cat-lovers, but Kellen is a cat-whisperer. :)
我为什么加入 Couchsurfing
We are environmentally conscious, vegetarian (OK, Kellen is a vegetarian and Emily is...almost), have recently left the corporate grind, and are looking to meet people with a similar thirst for adventure and new experiences and friends. We love airbnb, but are interested in the personal aspect of "couch-surfing". We have had amazing experiences so far. We look forward to sharing stories and meals with you, and hope to stay in touch long enough so that we can one day host you, wherever we land!

我做过的一件不可思议的事情
Emily: by far the most meaningful cultural experience I had was, strangely, in my own backyard in a sweat lodge on Ponca land in North Dakota. I was invited by the leader of the Ponca Tribal Council (A Lakota Sioux nation), who had called a sweat for his good friend (my dad) while my parents were going through a difficult divorce. Ponca friends came from all over Nebraska and South Dakota to offer advice to my family during this a time of pain and loss and transition, and opened their home to us for a Ponca potluck feast and conversation that went late into the night. A moment of great generosity that was very healing and humbling for me.
Kellen: After five years in a studio working as an audio engineer, I decided to go freelance. I was working all the time, physically exhausted, and was tired of every aspect of the 9-5 corporate environment. So I took a huge risk: I sold everything I owned but a few kitchen items and bought a 13-foot trailer. I've lived out of it and traveled with it for a year, and learned that I could give myself a raise not by working more, but by minimizing my consumption and expenses. Emily and I have taken it on some great camping trips, and learned to "live small" in a way that not a lot of our friends in Dallas understood. My life went from sitting in front of a computer for nine hours a day to working for myself, making all my own food, and finally making room for daily (sometimes twice a day!) hot yoga. Though the difference between my old life and my life now feels amazing, what seriously amazes me is how long I lived the way I used to! If anyone wants encouragement about taking the leap and working for yourself, I have plenty!

We both love cooking, but Kellen is looking to parlay his experience into a career shift! He has worked closely with the American Chef Graham Dodds, who has encouraged him toward a career in culinary arts. We love learning to make food from all over the world (Kellen most recently mastered some delicious Ethiopian dishes!) and would love to learn to make your favorite foods, if you're up for it. We would also love to cook you some of ours!
