Overview
About Me
I love to try new things! They challenge me but it is so rewarding to learn more about the world and myself - even if I fail, it's an opportunity to laugh and grow.
I have a number of seasonal contractual jobs that revolve around the ocean, sustainability, and seafood.
Typically I deploy at sea without communication with the "outside world" for part of the year as a component of my work, which really puts life and priorities into perspective. I want to take advantage of my relatively unfettered status in life to meet diverse people from diverse places and be WOWED by how big the world is.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think I'm my best self when I'm traveling alone and meeting new people. Being challenged by the new and unfamiliar in situations, personalities, and places is very stimulating and an easy way to access the childlike wonder that accompanies a state of unknowing!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: If I can conceivably dance to it, I love it.
Books: Steinbeck is my favorite author. The Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold, however, is my favorite book.
Movies: I like classic films, but I'm kind of a dilettante and don't know them in depth. I enjoy movies about the American West, and historical dramas.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Swam with 3 gray whales at sunset, including a little baby that breached! I could feel the current off their flukes. Accidental close encounter.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can show you how to make certain Korean dishes that I grew up eating and preparing. I can help you navigate the confusing world of sustainable seafood and fisheries management to make good choices for the planet. I can help you with your garden, if you have one.
Those are my portable skills.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm an enthusiastic cook! I can do seafood very well, and love to learn local dishes too. It's as much a treat for me to cook something for you (as my host) as it will be for you to eat it. I am also very respectful and appreciative and you will not wash a single dish yourself as long as I am staying with you.
If you don't like to eat and you love washing dishes, I can still give back to you by buying beer/wine, entertaining you with song (I love karaoke), or drawing you a picture.
Countries I’ve Visited
Costa Rica, Ecuador, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain
