Hello fellow surfers!
I'm Emily and I’m from the US.
I prefer to spend all my time traveling!
For the last 5 years I have been working seasonal positions in National Parks in the Western part of the US, making some quick cash, and traveling for the rest of the year. I have worked in Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton and Glacier National Park. They are all completely different but amazing in their own way. The hiking/mountaineering I have been able to do in Glacier has been absolutely incredible! That park has a very special place in my heart.
My work season lasts for about 4 months and then I am free to travel wherever after that. It's pretty excellent.
I basically just try to work as little as possible and travel as much as I possibly can.
I have an interest in learning a variety of trade/skills. I've worked on an off the grid organic permaculture farm, and I really really enjoyed it. I am completely fascinated by the way we grow and prepare our food. I am also fascinated about sustainable off the grid lifestyles.
I am always excited to learn exactly how different people all over the world eat, live and work.
Life is short. I feel like if we are not living everyday the way we want to, then we are just existing, not living. And I want to enjoy every single day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think the entire couch surfing idea is amazing. It's the central idea of travelers helping fellow travelers when they are in a foreign country. It's a great opportunity for a traveler to meet and stay with a local person as opposed to paying lots of money to stay in a hotel and not talk to anyone for a day. The best way to learn about other people and cultures is to experience them first hand. Staying in a persons home, having conversations and exchanging ideas and stories helps us to develop and grow as humans. I love traveling for many reasons, but meeting new people is one of the best things. Everyone on Earth knows something you don't; Go find out what it is!

Interests

My biggest passion is nature. I love to mountaineer, hike and camp. Spending most of my time in nature is centers me, helps me realize what is really important in life, and keeps me humble.
I love the water. Boating, fishing, swimming, jet skiing, kayaking, or relaxing on the beach for a day would be a perfect way to spend the day.
I am also very passionate about the food we eat and our food systems. I believe that as a human society we could live sustainability if the intention was there. I worked on an off-the-grid permaculture farm for awhile in Costa Rica and I learned so much about permaculture and sustainable lifestyles. I want to make as small of an impact on the Earth as I possibly can. I love and respect this planet and want to preserve its beauty for future generations.

Music, Movies, and Books

I cannot live without music. I will generally regret spending the money I make on anything but traveling, but live music is the exception. I love going to live shows and also attending music festivals. The excitement/energy of watching a performance with thousands of other people cannot be recreated digitally.
My music tastes change frequently but I am currently loving Griz, Bonobo, Beats Antique, Odesza, Mr. Green, and many many others. My favorite genres are cultural music from other countries, "hang drum", funk, swing, jazz, electro-funk, electro-swing, reggae, and alternative. I really like most genres of music BESIDES country. I just can't get into country. It's not for me.
I'm not a reader, but trying to push myself to read more.
I used to watch a TON of movies, but I do not make the time to watch too many anymore. I really enjoy watching documentaries. Animal, geographical, economic, sociological, conspiracy, etc. I will watch almost any documentary out there. It's usually an eye-opening experience. I am able to learn something about the world concisely and visually, which is my preferred way of learning.
The purely entertaining stoner comedy is great also. Sometimes you just want to relax, laugh, and be entertained for 2 hours. Lots of movies make me laugh histerically like Smiley Face, Step Brothers and Old School.
