ABOUT ME

I have lived in Portland for about 3 years, and it's my favorite city ever. Aside from work, my primary interest is music. I play guitar, violin, banjo, sing, a bit of piano. I write indie folk songs for a band called Urban Wildlife. Meeting new people is one of the best things in life (and why CS is so awesome). I'm pretty busy with work and rehearsals, but I try my best to be a decent host and at the very least give you lots of good recommendations.

PHILOSOPHY

As cheesy as it sounds, I like to put as little negativity into the world as is necessary. I'm a very calm person, and I find that the best way to solve a problem is to be able to compromise and stay calm and kind. I'm currently trying to figure out the meaning of life. I imagine it will take me at least another day or two...

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A few years ago I took a 4-month trip across the U.S. and used CS a number of times. It was immensely helpful, and I'm hoping to pay it forward.

I have not had one bad experience with CS. Everyone I've met has been gracious, interesting and giving.

Interests

I've been a vegetarian since birth. I LOVE animals and would never intentionally hurt one. However, I'm not offended by meat eaters and will respect your choices if you respect mine. I love music of all types, and can talk about it forever. I like slow movies with women characters. :) I'm a feminist and humanist, if we're getting into the -ists.

Music, Movies, and Books

This is always so hard. A random spattering: Books - The Razor's Edge, The Omnivore's Dilemma, Take the Cannoli, The Feminine Mystique, The Bell Jar. Movies - So I Married an ax Murderer, Imagine, The Hours, Lars and the Real Girl. Music - SO many. Some longlasting favorites are Bjork, Tori Amos, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, The Velvet Teen, Jeff Buckley, Billie Holiday, The Smiths. Some recent loves are Fionn Regan, Beirut, Electrelane, Fleet Foxes, Angus and Julia Stone, Horse Feathers, Laura Veirs, Peter Broderick, Tallest Man on Earth, Damien Jurado. It could really go forever. I love to have a soundtrack to my life.
