About Me

I'm getting to know Bamako and enjoying life in Mali so far.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people! I can't host at the moment, but I'm happy to meet up and explore Bamako.

Interests

food - I like LOTS of different types of food, with habaneros and baguettes being my current staples and there's a Vietnamese restaurant in my neighborhood where I eat at least once a week

drinks - coffee, tea, beer, wine, whisky, and lemonade

sports - rugby is my all time favorite to watch or play, followed by skiing, but as I don't get a lot of opportunity for either in Mali, I turn to hiking (my third favorite)

Music, Movies, and Books

books - currently reading Nervous Conditions and Running in the Family, and about to reread either Me Talk Pretty One day or Oryx and Crake, can't decide which (I also have to add the Dark Valley and Où j'ai laissé mon âme to any list of books I love)

tv shows - Parks and Recreation, Archer, and Un Village Francais are my favorites these days

movies - I love to watch: The English Patient, Matilda, and Alien / love to hate-watch: Jurassic Park, The Rock, and ConAir

music - Caravan Palace, Brigitte, The Devil Makes Three, and Zepparella are what I find myself listening to most often

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I smilingly ate a whole plate of those duck fetus eggs in Vietnam after a shy colleague ordered them for me at a restaurant, explaining they are a specialty in her village and one of her favorite foods. I loathed them, but I couldn't disappoint her so I managed to pretend like I loved them (one of the most difficult things I've ever done).

Teach, Learn, Share

I love swapping stories, reading out loud, and learning new skills.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will be happy to cook for you, help you around the house, work out together, or give you space.
