ABOUT ME

Always quick on the uptake, I discovered the awesomeness that is CouchSurfing after only 23 years of life, and I'm stoked to join the community. I love meeting people, I love exploring new locales, and I love having my worldview expanded by novel experiences. A perfect CS fit, right? Life is an adventure, and I intend to go boldly forth and make the most of it! Carpe the diem!

If your interest is piqued, I have a blog, slowly chronicling my travels around Southeast Asia! It's a little dated - I'm coming up on the two-year anniversary of the end of my trip, but I think it captures what I'm about pretty well.

PHILOSOPHY

Woof, hard to distill a life philosophy into something succinct and not kitschy. Here goes, though:

Don't be content with stasis - the world is far too big and there are far too many potential friends out there for you to get stuck doing something you don't love. Drive your life. Search out experiences that stretch your comfort zone. Look first for humor in all situations, especially uncomfortable ones. Strive to make the most interesting life choices. Hold on to your sense of curiosity.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

While I travel, I'm mostly looking to meet cool people, and crash on the occasional couch or two. I'll be getting my own place here in Boston this coming year, and am looking forward to hosting people!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Best CouchSurfing experience to date? Meeting up with a CouchSurfing group in Bangkok, Thailand for the Thai New Year festivities. Nothing like enjoying a massive, country-wide water fight with a bunch of new friends.

Interessen

I'm a public radio junkie. I love reading, writing, thinking critically, learning, science, and all the rest of that ivory tower nonsense. But, I also love getting out and doing - I'm an avid hiker (Colorado boy), runner, and Frisbee player, an aspiring climber, a burgeoning SCUBA wonk, and one of nature's all-time biggest fans. I also love to travel, and think that experiencing other cultures is such an important, humanistic endeavor. I get so much fulfillment out of volunteer work, and love working with kids in educational contexts. Also, animals. And cooking. And singing.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music: Dispatch, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Barenaked Ladies, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In no particular order.

Books: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (the big blue anthology), Isaac Asimov, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Joseph Heller, to name a few.

Movies: Exit through the Gift Shop, Big Fish, Zoolander, and the Planet Earth box set.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Once, I helped reunite a stranded, wave-battered baby otter with its mother. There is video, and it is heart-warming. If you host me, I'll show it to you! :)
