About Me

My name is Erik Ogard but I usually introduce myself as Erik with a K. I am a 23 year old native New Yorker. I recently graduated from the City University of New York, Hunter college with a bachelors degree in psychology and a minor in economics. I found that a 9-5 job did not fit my personality which led me to traveling. I was fortunate enough to have great parents that gave me the chance to travel to so many fantastic places and experience some great cultures. At the moment I am planning on traveling through Australia on a working holiday visa. This is my first official trip alone and I am excited to meet some wonderful people and make some great memories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing because I plan on staying in Australia on a working holiday visa for a year and could use all the help I can get. I don't really know anyone in Australia so I figured this was a good way to meet some great people and find out more about the culture from a local.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like every type of music. I think all genres have something to offer. My favorite movie is good will hunting. I don't have a favorite book yet but I love when people suggest things. The dictionary is fun to read at times, I enjoy expanding my vocabulary.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was able to visit a country when it was going through a revolution. I went to Egypt back in 2012 to visit my best friend and when I purchased the ticket, the country was safe to visit. When I arrived things began to get crazy, the military had to come in an control the riot and the protests. There was a national curfew which was 7pm and the United States embassy not only shut down but was flying all of its citizens home because it became too dangerous. I was one of the stubborn few that stayed to experience it to the fullest.
