Overview
About Me
We’re an international couple living in a little town called Gojome, in Akita Prefecture. Life here is quiet and beautiful, surrounded by mountains, rice fields, and local traditions but we’re always on the move, traveling around Japan whenever we can.
This is Shiori 🇯🇵, I was born Akita and raised in Narita. I am a Japanese and English language teacher who has taught not only in Japan, but also in countries like Norway and Poland. Teaching has given me the chance to connect with people from very different backgrounds, and I love helping others discover Japan through its language and culture. I have a calm and friendly personality, I enjoy sharing Japanese history and traditions with travelers.
This is Erik 🇲🇽 and I am from Mexico City, and my path has been a bit more nomadic. I am a project manager and IT professional, and I have been living in several cities across the world from London and Barcelona to Dubai, Dublin, Narita, and of course, CDMX. My experience living in so many different places made me curious, adaptable, and always ready for a good story over coffee (or a tequila!).
What We Love to Share ✨
For us, Couchsurfing is about creating genuine connections. When we meet people, we like to exchange experiences and skills. Some of the things we enjoy sharing are:
• Cooking Mexican food together (tacos, salsa, guacamole – straight from Humberto’s kitchen).
• Teaching and dancing salsa or cumbia, just for fun.
• Language exchanges in Japanese, Spanish, or English.
• Sharing knowledge about IT and digital tools for anyone curious about tech.
• Talking about history, culture, and our experiences living abroad.
We’re curious people who believe that traveling is not just about places, but about people. We’d love to meet travelers who want to experience Japan beyond the big cities, learn something new, and share a piece of their own culture with us too.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to share with people about my travel experiences and also contribute in what I can. Meet new people and know about their cultures and each other our traditions, life style, etc.
Actually I helped people in some issues they had in technology (programing, marketing, etc).
