About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the world my office

ABOUT ME

I'm a recent graduate who's stuck in that limbo between finally having money from work and a real desire to go back and do grad school and be poor and bohemian again. One of my big goals right now is to develop a work model for myself that doesn't involve me sitting in the same office everyday. Since I work as a freelance software developer from my laptop, I have freedom to travel. Couch surfing is part me exploring ways to evolve this work model and to meet cool traveler types well :).

PHILOSOPHY

I'm still developing my personal philosophy, and hopefully I'll never be too naive to believe that I could come up with a single defining dogma. I guess in that sense, my philosophy has been to remain fluid with it. There's a changeless core to it that centers around compassion, empathy, personal drive, vision, and my belief that I will find someone who will love me and know me on the deepest level. I live my life because I want to know someone that same way, have children with them and live a life of purpose (and fun!) while we try together to better the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new so I'm not really sure what my involvement will be in the community yet. I'm going to try it out and if I like it, as it seems I will, I'll become more active. I could definitely see my guest rooms as couch surf spots in the future!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Well, I've never been a formal couch surfer when I traveled in the past. Sure I've stayed at friends and peoples houses in my travels, but I've never couched surfed as a matter of course. Of course, this one time in Thailand, I did end up staying at this bar owners house in the country for two weeks while I worked at her bar. She took me in when I came to her pub for a beer to think about my options after an organic farming opportunity fell through. She asked my story and offered me her 'couch', actually a whole room to myself. Really saved my hide :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
I don't really watch them often anymore, and even trying to remember my favorites I'm coming up with a pretty scattered and minimal list. I can always enjoy a 'Frat Pack' movie, I'm a sucker for romantic comedies and adventure movies where the 'guy saves the girl', pathetic I know. I'm also down for flicks like 'Saw' and other shock thrillers... I can enjoy a wide variety of movies, in all actuality, I just don't end up watching very many. I saw "W." recently, it was great!

Music: I like a like a lot of contemporary rock
Audioslave
Jet
Stereophonics
Black Crowes
The Fray
White Stripes
Death Cab for Cutie
etc
and classic rock like Led Zeppelin, The Guess Who, The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, etc
in electronica I enjoy psytrance, a little drum and bass, anything with an arabian theme or mixed in with reggae beats. Reggae by itself is cool too.
Hiphop is good when it has something to say. Outkast is pretty tight.

Books: Adventure novels, software books, biographies, stuff people suggest to me that "I just have to read"

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn more construction and home improvement skills.

I have lots of computer skills and knowledge about a wide variety of subjects. I paint but wouldn't consider myself at a 'teaching' level yet.
