关于我

Hello! I study Mechanical Engineering and Math. With my little spare time I study Modern & Contemporary Art, gallery hop and listen to music.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

When I travel, I like to see the real character of the city or town I'm visiting. I want to learn about its people and how their environment has impacted them. Couchsurfing seems like the perfect way to travel, given these aspirations of mine.
I'm new here, and I can't wait for my first Couchsurfing experience -to meet new people and see a glimpse of their world.

TRAVEL PHILOSOPHY

Ever since studying abroad in New Zealand, I've found the phrase "I want to see the world" sort of upsetting. Not that the concept is innately bad or wrong, it just trivializes something that's very important to me. The internet is littered with articles about all the places you need to see before you die. As a result, we've created an impossible list of palaces, gardens, mountains and beaches to visit. We believe that by simply seeing these places, we will suddenly be better or wiser or more inspired. To me, "seeing the world" puts far too much emphasis on the act of looking, without experiencing.

While in New Zealand, I began to notice that my Kiwi friends seemed happier than most. They were far more carefree and often said they "couldn't be bothered" by the things out of their control. I found this outlook so refreshing and could only attribute it to their environment. There must be something very liberating about living in such a breathtaking place. If you've visited New Zealand then you know what I mean. It was after this discovery that I realized a person's environment is not valuable because of its beauty, but because of its power over people. All of the beaches, mountains, and forests we long to see were not created to be "eye candy" or "earth porn," but to impact those who look upon them. Yes, castles and cathedrals are pretty, but they provide more than aesthetic appeal. Majesty resonates deeper than that.

When I travel, I don't want to hit only the big tourist highlights and snap a photo. I want to see the nuances of the city or village, and observe how different groups of people are molded by the environments in which they live. I aspire to experience, love and understand the world and its people.
