I am looking for adventure on a budget, during the winter months when I'm not actively farming.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in the suburbs of Rochester, NY, with a green thumb and an affinity for nature. I went to school for Landscape Architecture and moved out to California (Bay Area) for 6 years. I got involved in the local organic food movement, working at farmer's markets, and volunteering on farms for a while. Then I decided that I could actually do it for a living! So now I'm going into my 6th season full-time farming, and I run a 15-acre vegetable CSA farm, feeding over 300 families in the community where I grew up.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to make sustainability and health a central part of everything I
do. I use my hands & head & heart to create good things for my
community.Listen to your heart, it sings louder than the traffic and commercials if you let it.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to stay on your couch while I'm traveling in the winter.  Then one day I will have a farmhouse and barn with couchsurfer bunk beds and you can come stay with me!  We'll have fresh goat milk yogurt in the morning and eat watermelons until the juice runs all over our chins.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed with a friend before in Florida, it was really great! I have met couchsurfers before that my friend has hosted and they were interesting and fun.

Intereses

I am obsessed with farming -- it is my passion and joy. Other things I used to do before farming took over my life include: make art, play banjo, ukelele, guitar, button-box accordion, go hiking & camping, reading, cooking, singing, hitchhiking, biking. I revive these interests in the wintertime!

Any books about farming!
Just read East of Eden, and Watership Down this summer. Really like Barbara Kingsolver, Michael Pollen, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Music-- I like folk, bluegrass, country, blues, rap, rock, world music, just about anything.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I backpacked through Australia. An amazing thing was staying in a ghost town in the outback, and staying with an aboriginal family. Also I learned how to surf and went skydiving there. What a great country.

I know a lot about growing vegetables, all different kinds.
I know how to cook-- I can take random ingredients and make something edible, especially in the vegetable realm.

I would love to re-ignite my adventuring soul... learn more banjo techniques, learn how to be happy!
