About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To find a way to sustain a stimulating and meaningful lifestyle while working less than 30 hours a week.

ABOUT ME

I value honesty, sincerity and humility, but there are times when I display none of those qualities (see how honest I am?). I have lived in California almost my entire life, traveled not enough, and eventually want to do something that involves science and teaching. Perhaps teaching science :)

PHILOSOPHY

Something that resembles Buddhism, with a little bit of cynicism mixed in for good measure. I also think that helping people who want help, and teaching people who want to learn are two of the best things that I can do in my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't hosted or surfed yet (I just got verified) but I have gone to one event and had a great time meeting people, making food and playing games in the park.

Interests

At the moment my interests are centered around plants and gardening. I eventually want to have my own little edible garden of eden. Other than that, I am interested in history, the history of religions, philosophy, ethics, permaculture, biology, geology, education, health and nutrition, Buddhism, psychology, human rights, animal welfare, and other liberal type things. I also like to hike, bike, read, knit, learn, talk, listen, and (at least in theory, since I don't actually do it very often) camp.

Music, Movies, and Books

movies: Seven Samurai, I Heart Huckabees, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou, Enlightenment Guaranteed, documentaries, Baraka, films by Pedro Almadovar, The Royal Tenenbaums. I also liked Bring It On a lot.

music: lately it's been a lot of bluegrass/folky type stuff. Emmylou Harris, Michelle Shocked, Lyle Lovett John Prine, Victoria Williams, Jimmie Dale Gilmore (I'm slightly embarrassed about liking him), Dry Branch Fire Squad, Todd Snyder. I also like Beck, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Wolf Parade, Iron & Wine, The Shins, Sufjan Stevens, etc.

books: The Secret Gospel of Thomas, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, cookbooks, Life of Pi, The Bell Jar, Things Fall Apart. I rarely read fiction, for some reason I have a hard time with it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Yesterday I hiked to the top of two waterfalls in Yosemite National Park.
