ABOUT ME
Note: I often use a VPN so my "last login" place can be incorrect.
I'm an American in Istanbul (I grew up in Los Angeles, but I lived in San Francisco a long time so I call San Francisco home). Basically, a few years ago I got tired of living in the States and decided to just sell my stuff, buy a one-way ticket and move abroad. I lived in Prague for a couple months then on recommendation of a friend moved to Istanbul. It's been quite an adventure thus far and I try to keep the adventure going. I consider myself a very easy-going, live and let live kind of guy. I like to go with the flow and view any problems encountered as just little bumps to overcome which add to the adventure of life. I don't smoke tobacco but it doesn't bother me if you or anyone else does. I also consider myself to be respectful and appreciative of hospitality thus I always clean up after myself and try not to be a burden on other people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've been to many CS meetings and my old flat mate would host a lot. It's nice to meet people from all over the world who share a love of travel and adventure.
Interests
History, traveling, meeting different people, news and world events, beer, local food, and the internet.
If I have my ear-buds in I'm usually listening to an audio book or a podcast. I prefer non-fiction over fiction (although I do like fiction as well). I like to listen/read about the world, civil liberties, criticisms of the State's power of coercion, and the future of the internet. I'm increasingly interested in information security and the battles between the State and those who seek to expose secrets. I just finished reading, "This Machine Kills Secrets: How WikiLeakers, Cypherpunks, and Hacktivists Aim to Free the World's Information" and have plenty of other reading on this topic on my old kindle for my 2013 summer travels.
When traveling I enjoy seeing historical areas and visiting museums. I have a tendency to wander the same old city center for hours over and over again taking in and appreciating the history of the place. I also very much enjoy having a drink outside at a cafe, pub, park or wherever enjoying the sun and the ambiance of just being outside. I am a person who can appreciate the little things in life that make it wonderful.

Music, Movies, and Books
I really don't know much music beyond what I grew up listening to :/ Hopefully you can help me fix that!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, I've had quite a number of amazing experiences (some fun, some crazy, some scary, some weird) but as I type this I'm thinking of last summer when I was packing frozen fish in Alaska. It was quite an interesting experience but one I'd prefer to never have again! lol
Teach, Learn, Share
I love learning about the history, culture and current events about the places I'm in.
As for what I can teach you, hmmm... well I know a little origami.
