Essencially to meet people and make the trips unique and memorable. Also, I enjoy staying in other countries for medium-long periods of time, so I can learn the language and try to live by their peoples' costums, but if I'm staying only for a couple of days, I think the closest to it is to stay with locals.

音乐、电影和书籍

Currently, when I think of my favourite films, the ones that cross my mind first are Vale Abraão (Manoel de Oliveira) and Stalker (Andrei Tarkovsky). Also, some weeks ago, the cinema here passed some films by the Italian Lina Wertmüller and a couple of them were enough to make her become one of my favourite directors.

I'm now trying to read everything I can find of Jorge Luis Borges. The theme of infinite fascinates me and although he didn't study anything related to Mathematics of Physics, his abstract images have been used to illustrate some mathematical concepts.
Some very special books to me are: The Waves (Virginia Woolf), Húmus (Raul Brandão) and Crime and Punishment (Fyodor Dostoevsky).

I find it difficult to talk about the music I listen to, as it varies so much, so let's just say once I took an 8-hour bus trip only listening to the two same albums by Leonard Cohen: Songs of Leonard Cohen and Songs of Love and Hate (ocasionally playing Ballad of the Absent Mare, from another album of his).

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

One of the most beautiful pictures I keep on my mind is from one morning in Italy. Me and a friend were sleeping in Padua and took one of the first trains in the morning to Venice. We arrived there around 7am. The sun hadn't raised yet and there was no one in the streets besides the people opening the market and ocasionally some solitaire tourist with their Leica. We accompanied the color spectrum of the sunrise in a clear sky day, reflected on the waters of an empty Venice. The next day there was a magnitude 6.5 earthquake in the centre of Italy.
