I have a deep love for meeting new people, having new experiences and living the most enjoyable life possible, and travelling is by far the best way to achieve all three.

In fact, science tells us that travel is the best way to spend our disposable income; the joy one receives from material possessions is fleeting but the memories one makes from one's travel experiences will remain with you forever. Even bad experiences make for great stories ;)

Myself and my wife Rosanna (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/rosannamalowney) have just quit our jobs in my hometown of Melbourne, Australia to travel the world for at least 2 years, with plans to spend about a year in Central / South America.

It is our intention to at some stage spend some time volunteering on eco farms and learning permaculture, whilst at the same time learning the language and culture of the places where we stay. Teaching English as a foreign language is also a passion we share and may end up spending some time doing this, either volunteering or for money depending on our situation at the time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Myself and my wife have hosted couch surfers in the past, using her profile listed above and whilst I have never been a couch surfer myself, I can fully appreciate how to be a great guest; be respectful and clean above all else, and otherwise just go with the flow.

Whilst I have met many great people in hostels around the world, I feel that I am now beyond the hostel experience for the most part and seek to gain a more in depth feel for the culture of the places I travel to. Couch surfing will most certainly provide this!

We do not intend on spending our entire travels couch surfing, but will certainly do it at least once in every place we go.

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many of each to list here; anything that sounds goods, looks good and reads good are good!

The only thing I don't really like is commercial pop-radio where you hear the same soulless songs over and over again; songs that seem to have been written by psychologists for otherwise talentless pretty boys and girls, for the purpose of marketing and mass distraction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going for a motorcycle ride in central Sri Lanka and seeing a wild elephant on the side of the road, and then waiting patiently about 50 meters away at the behest of other motor cyclists (who may have indeed saved our lives) until a big dump truck came and created a 'safety barrier' for us to ride around.

As an avid cook with a taste for global cuisines, I would be more than happy to share some knowledge of how mix flavours that might not otherwise be considered mixable ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very respectful person and am impeccably clean, I am also a great cook (if I must say so myself) and if appropriate would be more that happy to cook you a most delicious dinner (or lunch or breakfast...) to say thanks for letting me stay with you.
