About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Enjoy Boston, meet new folks, hopefully learn something along the way
ABOUT ME
I'm an easygoing, relaxed, curious, and friendly Southerner (US) who is always looking to meet new people and see new things!
PHILOSOPHY
"Don't be an asshole" - do right by people, and you'll get the same in return.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Actually just getting started here - I joined back in the fall of 2010, but haven't really been able to do as much traveling as I hoped since then. When I was living abroad, I used CS as a great way to meet new people and really integrate into the culture. Haven't hosted thus far, but would love to start doing so.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Surfed on my travels throughout France and Germany while living in Chemnitz, Germany.
Interests
History (mainly U.S. and German), politics (mainly US), German language, travel, American football, cooking, working out

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite book: "The Great Gatsby" (I'm thrilled that I got to teach it to my German students last year!). Also, "The Corrections" by Jonathan Franzen. Also love lots of history and political books, and really, anything nonfiction that is interesting.
As far as music, I've actually been getting into the old "Ostrock" from the former GDR - although my interest is far greater than my knowledge. And I love American classic rock and folk music (although again, interest > knowlege - not a huge music buff).
Movies: not a huge movie buff either, but love good period dramas and comedies. Just a few: The Lives of Others, A Beautiful Mind, Downfall, Any Given Sunday, Forrest Gump, American Beauty, The Departed, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou. Also love good, mindless action movies and comedies (i.e. Super Troopers).
However, I do have my TV favorites: Family Guy, King of the Hill (great about life in Texas), The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and anything political (MSNBC).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In my younger years (i.e. 5 years ago), playing high school football in Texas was an incredible experience, one that I'll never forget. More recently, spending this year in Germany (in addition to a shorter stay 2.5 years ago) has been unreal for me, both in terms of improving my language skills and also my knowledge of the culture.
Countries I’ve Visited
Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Mexico, Netherlands
Countries I’ve Lived In
