About Me

I am a single, active, 68 yo woman with a zest for life and a life-long abiding love of travel and the outdoors. In my youth I traveled extensively in the US and Caribbean, working in Alaska, Yellowstone Park, White Mts in NH, and crewed on a charter dive/sailboat. In the course of the season, the 57-ft trimaran sailed from USVI to Grenada and back, with amazing wonderful diving.

Raising a family, we always took camping vacations, incorporating canoeing, hiking, biking, snorkeling, and backpacking. We loved going to the Rockies in Colorado (still one of my favorite spots). Trips were always planned around the full moon--no reason to stop having fun outdoors just because the sun went down. We played with glow in the dark toys, hiked, biked, kayaked (I went just the other night) into the evening.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am empty nest, single and still yearning for adventure. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. In the next couple of years, I plan to take a number of trips to interesting places and I hope to meet interesting people. Staying in a hotel is so cold and impersonal. I always look forward to having fellow travelers in my home.

Interests

Health and fitness! Yoga classes three times a week keep me grounded yet flexible! While not a fanatic, I do eat healthy foods. I have been lacto-vegetarian for over forty years. (Those Cheetos still occasionally call out to me!) I love to cook and always look forward to cooking with my children when they are here.

I am happiest outdoors, always. I love the water and I love the mountains. I am an adventurer and thrill-seeker. I have sky-dived (tandem) four times and would go again tomorrow if it were free! For my daughter's 18th birthday we skydived from 18,000 feet on a beautiful clear day and views of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and inland waterways.

Kindness to all living things (except maybe cockroaches and mosquitoes who invade my home). My vegetarianism is based on the "live and let live" philosophy rather than health.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to anything except rap and country (well, maybe one short country song). Everything from Lady Gaga to classical cello is on my playlist.

Movies not so much. Never extreme violence or gore. If I go to see a sci-fi movie, I have to read about the plot beforehand so I can follow but then I usually get lost anyway.

I read every day, mostly fiction but sometimes not. I like mysteries and espionage thrillers. I will read anything if I am waiting someplace with nothing to do--cereal boxes, advertisements, people...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are four experiences in my life that, upon thinking of them, can still give me goosebumps. Two of them were underwater, one on the water and one in Alaska in the Chugach Mountains. Our world is so full of beautiful wonders.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you stop learning, you stop growing and changing and life is all about change. I expect to learn something every day.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My happy, optimistic, fun-loving and adventuresome attitude. I do love to hear about their life stories and I love to ask questions!
