About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mhhmmmmm

ABOUT ME

A close friend of mine found my eyes to be my most compelling feature, because I give people very attentive and comforting looks, rarely looking away (except if something makes me feel uncomfortable ;) yeah, that's really a good way to measure how good I'm feeling!). I like to smile and I usually smile and laugh a lot - most people tend to find that charming and enjoyable.
People have said that I'm a quick thinker, understanding and processing stories in an instant and then reacting to them in thoughtful or funny ways; or that I'm able to contribute well-considered opinions and views on anything people might tell me, which in turn made them feel comfortable being with me. Then again, sometimes I'm really impulsive and don't take enough time to go through something before doing or saying it. I guess two sides here (of the many that might be there) are that I can be very enthusiastic but I can also jump to conclusions too quickly.
I can be a really good cook (depending on whatever's at my disposal; these days, because of a busy schedule, I have gotten a lazy cook though).
I'm very caring and sensitive (in both the more positive and more unfavorable sense); pretty random too - associating ideas in a way that often only confuses the people who aren't inside of my head ;) but can be enjoyable as well, you know, a wild ride of my and your imagination. Also, I will follow you into whatever scenario you might be making up!
I think I do know my share of good cinema (it's my passion..so it could always be more) - that I'm a very good listener - that I can be a bit harsh sometimes when it comes to discussions (although I will (try to) continue to be friendly, discussions with me can get heated) - also that I am a bit dithery (had to look that one up as well) - that I cram too many things into my everyday schedule ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I moved to Vienna about five years ago to pursue my studies here (philosophy & comparative literature at first, I gave up the latter when five semesters in to get a degree in film studies), and now I'm trying to finish my BA degreee in philosophy and film studies to start a MA programme in Amsterdam.
In short: having lived here for almost five years, I'm pretty sure I can show you around -
I know some cool bars & nice clubs to spend your evenings at, to get some booze or simply dance the night away as well as I know some very cute, litte cafes to get some coffee the morning after ;) We could hang out at some nice outdoor spots, close to the city center or a little more remote, I'll see what I can do :)

I'm quite familiar with public transportation here, otherwise it won't take me more than a few minutes to find out.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Up until the summer of 2014, I had only met up with two couchsurfers, since I couldn't host them at the time, and we went for a few drinks in a bar close to my apartment. It was great fun, we talked for three hours and split up as the sun was about to rise. Really fond memories. :)

In 2014, I've won an InterRail fifteen days continuous pass and decided to travel Spain and Portugal and to surf as much as possible to make the most of my travels - and that's what happenend! I had very welcoming hosts, who offered me their house as my home, who would always try to make me feel comfortable and who would always answer my basic questions about whatever spot I was in - really, every single one of them! Some were more quiet, whereas others took me on a wild ride all through the town! I found kindness, warmth, a lot of fun, (re-)discovered beauty in the smallest things - people were always helpful, and some were as amazing as to show me around practically everyday. I can only recommend it and wish to be at least half a good host as you, you know who you are, have been to me! :)

Interests

I'd say that I am interested in ideas - any, really. I think that's what got me into philosophy in the first place.
I enjoy reading philosophical texts as well as novels, I can't get my head around poetry often enough, regrettably (but I should, I get inspired to do it every now and then - for example, when I met a good friend in Lisbon who, in a collective work, tried to work out a short film in relation to poems by Fernado Pessoa - a really cool girl with a deep and soothing voice read them aloud to have the recordings. Because of the crowdedness and noise of the workspace we went to a more secluded place where we had this intimate recording session that made us intensely grasp the poetic world of his thoughts and words .)
I try to watch a movie (at least a short one) every day; I'm interested in preservational and presentational techniques regarding film (digital and analog) and video and whatever else might be popping up in the next few years, so basically I'm interested in curating film, and I'm also interested in institutions that care about these things and all of the other problems pertaining to archives and museums (also, I try to check out a nice venue for film screenings or even a cinematheque in every city, I'm glad about recommendations, especially in smaller places!)

Getting to know new places and meeting new people is always fun; it gets kinda boring in Vienna from time to time, same old same old, so it's nice to meet a friend's friend who's visiting, a traveller - or to travel around myself (which I can't always do when I get bored).
I try to live healthy; I'd love to get into martial arts, the ones focussing on defense techniques at least; I love a nice and relaxed bike tour; I like odd places and odd conversations, I try to avoid the hippest of the hip and meaninglessness in general ;)

having friends over and cooking for or with them is always nice
dancing for fun
listening to music and sinking into the sound
wandering the streets, discovering odd places

and I want to discover as much of the world as possible and work as little as possible (at least not work a job that I hate, travelling only once in two years - ugh!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing Neutral Milk Hotel play live!
Attending a master class held by Cristi Puiu!
Reading excerpts from de Sade's "120 days of Sodom" to a fairly large crowd, haha; lying in a big swing-thing on a playground with two close friends while it was pouring rain; every time at the Austrian Film Museum
Travelling on a regular basis with my mother who hasn't been travelling for over twenty years; hanging out with those special people; going for a swim in the ocean and observing prawns and starfish and jellyfish in the water; sleeping in a sailing boat while there was a storm.

travelling Spain and Portugal during one very warm September in 2014.

Teach, Learn, Share

People tell me I'm quite a good cook. I'm also pretty good at making up random stories & scenarios. I can teach you my first language, which is German. I have great orientation, but I don't think that can be learned (I got superlost several times in Lisboa, though, I have to hand it to ya, LX!). I'm sure I'll teach you some small thing or the other!
Or maybe I'll just confuse you, haha.

I'd love to learn more languages and hold on to or improve the ones I do speak. I want to hear all your stories, whatever you may have experienced. If you have anything to say about cinematic art or the preservation of film (and everything else you might classify under this term), please do - I want to learn all about it! I don't have many practical skills, like gardening, repairing and building stuff, which is annoying. You can also show me your local cuisine or favourite recipes or pretty much anything you think one should know about or have seen!

We can listen to music of all kinds together; go to a nice jazz club, go to the best cinema in town. We can wander the streets at night all through to the next morning.
