ABOUT ME

I've spent a large portion of my life traveling, moving around, and dreaming.

I think humor, kindness, and simplicity are the most important things in this world, even though I have a soft spot for complicated systems and overwhelming detail.

I've lived in Siberia. I've lived in the Sonoran desert. I've worked in circuses, computer labs, neuroscience groups, and art studios. I've recently started drawing comics, as well as working towards a graduate degree in Theatrical Design and Digital Media. It keeps me pretty busy, but I consider myself lucky to be able to do what I love.

I'm a big fan of fairytales. I believe in magic 100%.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to travel & host quite frequently while I had a home base. The past several years have involved a lot of moving around for work/school, so that's made it difficult to host responsibly. I am excited to be a bit more settled again, and be able to participate more actively.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couch surfed for years before the internet was able to take this artform to a whole new level, and I have met some of the most extraordinary people through this site.

Music, Movies, and Books

Good songs & musicians come from just about any genre, honestly. Lately there's been a bit of Die Antwoord, Omnia, Gogol Bordello, Chopin, Bach, jazz/blues, and Grimes around...but that changes day to day.

Films I like//could watch forever: the Dark Crystal, Spirited Away. Also, Les Enfants du Paradis. Gritty Eastern European stop-motion makes me happy.

I read...a lot of books. Tove Jansson is one of my most favorite authors. I'm also a fan of Ray Bradbury, H.G. Wells, Murakami, Kerouac, Judika Illes, etc, etc. As an illustrator, I'm quite fond of books with pictures in them, too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Just one?
Once I got to travel to an desert city called Arcosanti in an old circus bus, and spent days and days under the infinite sky playing with fire, and climbing high into the air.

What I can teach & share:

- how to make oneself monstrously ugly/strikingly beautiful (I teach classes on Stage Makeup & Special Effects)
- various creation: leatherwork, sewing, mending, jewelry-making, painting, constructing
- dancing, yoga, stretching & mindfulness
- stories, spells, superstitions, magical traditions from different places
- stuff about brains & bodies, and how the two are connected

I am happy to learn just about anything. There can't really be too much learning.
