Traveling the world, interviewing people about the global protest movement that began last year.

ABOUT ME

I am a reporter. In high school, I was involved with a freedom of speech controversy at the student newspaper that drew the attention of the ACLU. At Wesleyan University, I was the editor of the student newspaper, the Argus. I spent 2010-11 as a town government reporter for the Bar Harbor Times newspaper in Maine, and I spent October 2011 to February 2012 blogging about the Occupy Wall Street protests. I drove 15,000 miles back and forth across the U.S. interviewing Occupy protesters. Now I am traveling around the Mediterranean interviewing protesters.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm still figuring this one out. But my main goal is trying to learn as much as possible so that I can place my life and this world in a larger historical context.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been surfing since 2009, when I went to Whartscape in Baltimore and stayed with Taylor Schmidt!! I haven't stopped since, because it is so much more fun than hostels. It's such a great way to see the world.

兴趣

Good conversation, reading books, taking time off from computer and TV, hiking and biking. I play classical guitar. I love swimming in cold water.

When I returned to Zuccotti Park two weeks after the first day of Occupy Wall Street. It was a scene of popular triumph, and the global media was on hand to record it.

Also: Sleeping in an illegally occupied supermarket in Madrid with my cousin Andrew and a few French revolutionaries! It was taken over by the 15-M protest movement a few months beforehand and converted into a giant community center.
