About Me

I love travelling, mostly inwards.

I’m a reader, writer, tea drinker, and an observer of the world. I’m curious about how humans live, how they define themselves, and the small details of the world.

My best travel memories aren’t visiting places, but connecting with fellow humans over a cup of tea and a meaningful conversation, preferably late at night.

My biggest goal in life is to fully experience it, with everything it has to offer. This means I’m open to new experiences and don’t always expect them to turn out positive.

Why do I travel? Because “travel was once a means of being elsewhere, or of being nowhere. Today it is the only way we have of feeling that we are somewhere. At home, surrounded by information, by screens, I am no longer anywhere, but rather everywhere in the world at once, in the midst of a universal banality - a banality that is the same in every country. To arrive in a new city, or in a new language, is suddenly to find oneself here and nowhere else. The body rediscovers how to look. Delivered from images, it rediscovers the imagination.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to see the world before I die. Not through a hotel's window, but living from the inside out.
What better way to experience culture than through sleep under someone else's roof?

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

Books:
Never ask a literature student what their favorite book is :)) There's just too many. My favorite writers include Ishiguro, Salinger, Paul Auster, Chuck Palahniuk, and James Joyce. also read non-fiction, psychology, and (good, non-trashy) self-help. You can always ask me what I’m currently reading.

Movies:
I’ve always had a complicated relationship with cinema. I went through the obligatory Tarantino phase as a teenager but was never able to connect with the more “artistic” films my friends liked.
These days I watch movies on my own terms- with frequent pauses, snack breaks, and occasional Wikipedia rabbit holes. Kubrick and Lanthimos are the directors I’ve connected with the most.
Despite all that, my favorite movies remain those involving a murder, a dead body and a preferrably handsome detective.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This section has given me an existential crisis for weeks now. Maybe you can help me figure it out when we meet?

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a person with strong opinions- you might disagree with me, but you'll for sure not be bored by the conversation. :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make you a unique Iranian tea or a traditional dish, and talk about capitalism, feminism and the immigrant experience for hours.
