ABOUT ME

I am very easy going, and tend to spend most of my time at home although I do enjoy the outdoors (on occasion, like when the house is on fire.)

32, Male (that's the worst part)

I love singing (I have a KTV machine in my HOUSE with three microphones!); also love creativity, thoughtfulness, art, sociology, psychology (lean back and tell me about your childhood), music, web design, standards (who need'em?), quality, technical writing, communications, computers, video games, yadda yadda.

PHILOSOPHY

One candle can warm an igloo.
But don't pass gas inside of one.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just kinda point at the couch. "Oh _there_ it is!"

Actually, I have a website where I talk ALL about doing basic travel, survival, social faux pas to avoid, and doing business in China (where I've lived for five years because they won't let me leave).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once slept on a floor, with an inch thick mattress pad. The next day, I bought an airmatterss. I INSISTED that my host keep it as a gift.

I've been camping, was a boyscout, but I'm an adult now. That's why I buy extra blankets, extra pillows, and have a soft sleeping surface for my guests.

Ever-ay-thang!

I like pretty much everything. Try me. Find the most boring part of your life or who and what you are... just start talking, and notice how I desperately ask you to KEEP TALKING! If you gotta go to the bathroom, I'll just follow you right in there so I don't miss out. Yeah, I like everything. Just try me.

I read a lot of business books.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Gave a friend a few thousand when his wife's house got flooded.

Gave a friend a thousand when the state was gonna take her baby for not keeping her rent paid up.

Gave... oh no. Don't you ask me for money!

Coming to China?

Grab on of the tourist maps on display before you go through customs, you won't find one on the other side.

Google 'the shanghai help center', it's a phone number. They speak German, English, Polish... try them and be amazed as someone with a computer gives you help such as directions.

If someone asks you to follow them to their taxi, don't. They will rape and kill you. Just kidding, but they WILL charge you 500% more than any other taxi in the city. NEVER trust anyone that is OFFERING you a taxi. Get the taxi from the guy that's not offering.

The metro goes straight in to the airport now. Don't even take a taxi. There's also an 'airport' bus that's an exceptional deal if it's too late and the metro has stopped.

Don't give money to beggars. They will knife you for the rest. Just kidding, but seriously, you're only making the problem worse. There is social aid available for them, they just don't want it when begging pays so well. That's your fault. Stop giving them money.

The metro ticket vending machines have English. Look in the corner, push the button. Aw yeah, you can use the metro! The buses do not have English, you're shit out of luck.

Want to have fun? Tourist map. Period.

Do not go to "cheapoo lu" - That's a bad place and the shop keepers will mug you if you enter their shop, try on clothes, then leave without buying. That one's not a joke. They will fucking MUG you. Do NOT go there.

Go to People's Square, and find the museume, it's awesome.

Do not go to any KTV building alone if it has "women" anywhere in the lobby. On your way out, whether you "had a woman" or not, three beefy guys will demand payment in the thousands, and yes, they will hurt you. I knew a guy that narrowly escaped. No woman, no food, no drink... all he did was sing, all by himself. He got targeted for easy money.

If you go to People's Square and someone approaches you to take pictures with them and their friends. They speak broken English and make friends with you... then they ask you to go to have a TEA CEREMONY with them, it's a scam. It will cost you THOUSANDS. Same things applies to if you meet any women outside of a bar who like you and then ask you to buy them a drink... or if you meet them inside, and the same thing happens. They work for the bar and your drinks are going to cost you, a lot.

Watch your wallet. Insider coat breast pocket only. It will be stolen within three days. Watch your phone... you get the idea.
