About Me

A Malaysian-born Chinese who appreciates good food and tries to make a difference in this world, one small step at a time. There was a time when she was struggling badly with depression for a few years, but still managed to come out of those dark days. And now she understands: What doesn't kill you make you stronger 💪💪💪

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy traveling and realize that accommodation is a heavy expense for anyone. I like the idea of having a temporary place to crash while traveling with minimal cost, and I enjoy doing the society a favour by hosting travelers as well.

Interests

I am born an introvert, so naturally I am more comfortable when I'm left alone. I spent a lot of time thinking - on the problems I'm facing in my life and how to go about them, how to make life more meaningful for others, why things are in certain manner etc.

I can get stressed out easily, especially when there are a lot of stuffs that I need to deal with at a certain time. When I was working at Penang previously, whenever I got stressed out, I'll drive 🚘 all the way to the beach 🏖 (Straits Quay) and lost myself in the scenery.

To be honest, food is a big deal for me. I discovered that I cannot function without having a proper breakfast. My whole day can be ruined if I skip breakfast! I try to learn to cook my favourite food although my current lifestyle doesn't permit me much time to indulge in cooking.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read too many fiction when I was younger until my eyes hurt so bad. Now I prefer to read non-fiction materials, especially those on how the successful ones get to be at where they are today. I just find their stories inspiring and motivating, something which I need as a constant reminder.

I am a fan of Stephen Chow's work, all his movies, some of the renowned ones are Kungfu Soccer, The Hustle and The Mermaid. The message conveyed in his movies are deep and thought-provoking. I have lost count of how many times I rewatched his movies, both crying and laughing over them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done pretty lots of "crazy" amazing stuffs after I graduated from university, as in stuffs that people in Asia won't normally pursue once they start working.

I quit my engineering job after a year, moved to KL and did babysitting for two years. I simply adore children for their innocence and determination to learn. I had a frustrating experience with my first job as an engineer, so babysitting was a way for me to slow down and decide what's next for me.

Then I found my dream job - getting paid for studying and doing homework. I was really good in my studies and always thought how cool it would be if I could be paid for having excellent grades. Turned out that rich (or not) students hire tutors (that's what I was called) to do homework, assignments, projects and even take online exams, which is more prevalent in the United States. I turned out to be one of the top tutors at this company 😂

So far, one amazing experience which leaves a deep impression in me is offering free accommodation to a very young couple who faced some difficulties and helping them to sort out their lives, although this experience left me with troubled and sleepless nights for at least half a year. This couple is unrelated to me, but deep in my heart, they feel like family to me. Probably I'm amazed at how much trust they have in me and how I managed to make a difference in their lives. The young couple are now happily married, and are expecting their firstborn soon 💖💖💖

Life itself is truly amazing if you take courage to step out of your comfort zone and reach for the stars 🌠🌠🌠

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you Mandarin (Chinese language) and Malay if you would like to learn some languages while you're in Malaysia. You could mostly go places in Malaysia with some English and Malay.

I don't dream of becoming a hairdresser but it really seems cool to be able to give people free hair cuts. It is a service which everyone needs and I am trying to pick up this skill. I practice my hairdresser skills on my partner currently. He gets free hair cuts 😆

What I Can Share with Hosts

I could offer you a place to stay with me. I always try to leave a room empty for guests, so you could have some privacy. My place has hot shower and WiFi.

I like to cook! 🍴🍝🍔🍟🍛
I can cook Penang char kuey tiaw (fried rice noodles), spaghetti, burger, char siew (think grilled marinated pork), to name a few. If I have the time and you would like to try some homecooked food, I could prepare some meals for you.

I might be able to bring you around PJ/KL if I can squeeze in some time. My schedule can be hectic and unpredictable sometimes 😆 So you might be on your own most of the time if you decided to stay at my place.

I understand it isn't easy to be traveling in a foreign country, when you're far away from home and familiar places. Feel free to discuss with me if you have any needs or difficulties while in Malaysia. I can't promise I can help you 100% but I always give my best shot.
