About Me
---------------------------------------
I like to host people from time to time and if I do I really care about them like friends but I dont do it often as I am quite busy because of my work. If you live in your city for quite a long time you will stay at the same places with the same people most of the time so hosting someone is a nice opportunity to bring some change and variety into life and meet new people. But for sure I wont spend all my free time hosting couchsurfers. Also Hamburg seems to be a very popular place, millions of tourists come here every year and I sometimes get several requests per day. In case I just decline your request, please dont take it personal. I try to respond very quick so that you can make your plans but sometimes I miss to do so too.
---------------------------------------
Normally I work as a docker at the port of Hamburg, the city I was born and still live. The complicated german word for my profession could be translated into english as "Professional in Port Logistics". I am very glad sometimes its more a crazy adventure than a job, but all in all its hard work and you have to deal with "difficult" and rough but very interesting and unordinary people. Although Hamburg may be a really nice city, you have to get out from there by time to time. It really starts to get boring visiting the same places with the same people over and over again, so I try to spend as much free time as I can get to travel. Another big aspect that nearly teaches you some kind of instinct to escape from Hamburg is the shity weather with a lack of a real summer.
For me travelling is the best thing you can waste your time and money on if you are one of the few lucky people on the planet who have the privilege to do so. I listed a lot of countries in my profile but thats nothing to show off with and bother other people because I know that travelling (that much) is a western more or less wealthy peoples privilege. Keep in mind that many people on the world dream about travelling at least once in their life but they dont even manage to see nice things in their own country.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
For me the idea of couchsurfing is very new. First time I heard of that was just a few months ago when I watched some documentaries about it on television and then I read a book about a guy who was couchsurfing in Russia and the former USSR. Now I decided to also try it out. It seems to be one of the best and easiest ways to get in touch with people and their culture when you dont already know people somewhere else.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Normally people in (northern) Germany are not open minded and welcoming guests. They behave like our weather: cold. Of course I was like that too until I was 18 years old and and a friend invited me to Sankt Petersburg during the summer vacation of school. The welcoming behaviour of the people who wanted to share everything with me and nearly forced me to learn about their food, history and culture impressed me so much that I started to actively think about that kind of behaviour and tried to change myself about that.
Somehow its a little advantage that your country is not the guest friendliest place one could imagine. You get surprised and feel warmly impressed by some kind of behaviour which is quite normal and part of the culture somewhere else.
Teach, Learn, Share
All my life I lived in Hamburg so I know some places, stories and people here. Maybe I cant tell you where to get the best photos but I definetly know where to have some fun. After working a few years in the citys port I could tell you some things about it and show its places if you are interested in that.
