About Me
(Disclaimer: I'm getting many requests, especially in summer. I try to respond but am not very good at keeping up with messages so don't take it personal ✨)
Hi, I'm Felix! I live by myself in Anderlecht which is a bit out of the Brussels city center. Most tourists don't make it here even though we have fantastic attractions such as a minigolf and multiple supermarkets.
I'm someone who likes to socialize over a drink and have fun. Also interested in running, photography, writing, languages, concerts, playing pool, theatre, politics, art, history, movies. I have a special thing for Slavic languages and am learning Russian, so if you speak it, I'll be biased to let you stay. I also aim to learn Turkish but I can't have any kind of conversation in that language yet 🥴
I like to travel every once in a while (probably not super rare on this app). Although most of my references so far mention drinking beers, I'm not actually an alcoholic as this might suggest. I do enjoy a good beer and will gladly share some Belgian ones I like!
I'm a pretty unapologetically progressive person - I am open to discussions but I don't host people with racist, sexist, Zionist or far-right views.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Huge cliché, but CS allows you to explore new cultures and languages more authentically. It's a chance to get a more "genuine" travel experience than a backpackers hostel would be able to offer.
I am down not just for hosting but for hanging out too, especially in Brussels or Leuven (where I studied) since I'm less likely to get tragically lost in these places than elsewhere.
On the downside, I think the fact CS is not free anymore screwed over both the principle and the practical usability. CS in my opinion should be fully free and act as a middle finger to the airbnb/hotel industry's commodification of travel. But let's make the best of it 🙃

Music, Movies, and Books
My music taste fluctuates a lot. Some examples of artists that I like are The Mars Volta, Pink Floyd, Igorrr, Cesaria Evora, Sons of Kemet, Candlemass, also some black metal acts such as Ulver, Batyushka, Nargaroth, Thy Catafalque, and I like me some hip hop as well. I read both non-fiction (politics, history...) and novels (for example I've binge-read many books of Italo Calvino). For movies I'll just conveniently give my Letterboxd top 4 because I'm that type of person: Hausu, Sorry to Bother You, Twin Peaks the Return, Angel Heart.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was once bitten in my knee by a penguin.
What I Can Share with Hosts
-Stories
-Show you around town
-Tell you about Belgium, Belgian politics or culture
-Food: I can try to cook one of the classic recipes by Flemish cooks/cult heroes such as Jeroen Meus and Piet Huysentruyt. If that fails, we can still get fastfood together
-Chilling or having a drink together
-Going for a run together
-Basic Dutch phrases (or insults if that's your field of interest)
-Deep insights and reflections about life
