About Me

I'm now in New York and hoping to find people to meet up with!

Hi everyone, I'm a 27 year old archaeologist living in Dublin! I'm originally from the Netherlands, but moved to "the green isle" after I graduated, as it had been my dream since I was little. Now I'm digging up medieval Dublin and I'm learning a lot about Irish history in the process! Since I now have a full time job with (almost...) unlimited time to travel, I'm trying to see as much of the world as I can. At the moment I can't host anyone (my house in the Northside is falling apart, but some time in the future I'll be happy to invite people) but I'm always OK to meet up! Don't be scared off by my clumsiness or my tendency to make the most terrible puns, cause underneath that you'll find an easy-going person who likes to chat about (almost? Let's try..) anything. Since Dublin is my adoptive town I have spend lots of time exploring it and picked up a fierce passion for it, so if you need any tips or want to hang out here, I wouldn be very happy to help you :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started couchsurfing in 2012 during my interrail trip and had some good experiences with people from Romania and Slovenia then. It made me feel so happy to see how people from different countries and cultures are willing to show you around in their city, make you feel comfortable and help you out!
Sadly, I didn't have much time to go couchsurfing lately, as I was concentrating on my move abroad. Hopefully, I can finally host some people soon!

Interests

history and archaeology (obviously), art, fashion, literature, photography, travelling, biology, and loads more. I'd like to know everything there is (wish that could be possible), & am always willing to learn.

Music, Movies, and Books

this is a very difficult question because I'm a bit of a bibliophile and I read anything I can lay my hands on. I always like to recommend books to/receive book recommendations from fellow bookworms :)
Similarly for movies and music...I don't know where to start. I love gangster movies and westerns, mostly...I can be a bit obsessed about tv series and talk about them a lot (my favourite series ever is Boardwalk Empire). The kind of music I like really depends on my mood - I mostly listen to folk, blues, rockabilly, classical music, and 1920s jazz. Again, I always like it when someone recommends something to me I didn't know about before :)
I play a bit of music myself, too: I can play the cello and I want to learn to play the banjo soon (although apparently that's really difficult haha...).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Three years ago, I went to the Caribbean (the island of Saint Eustatius) for 1.5 months, to work at an archaeological excavation. I'd never been so far away from home before. It was a whole new experience; being away for so long, working in a team, trying to get used to the Caribbean climate & way of living - it was great! Not to mention all the wonderful things I've seen there (like cloud forests on Saba island, flint artefacts, sea turtles...). I still hope to go back some time!

Teach, Learn, Share

well... I could teach you:
-a small trick to read really fast
-about all the ways people buried their dead throughout history (a bit sinister i know, but that's archaeology for you :P)
-the lyrics of (most) Dubliners songs
-and...I could tell you what NOT to wear during a hiking trip. found that out the hard way.

I'd like to learn many things and don't know where to start! I'm happy with anything you want to share! :)
I'm very, very, very clumsy so I really hope I will come across someone who found a solution for that. But the best thing ever would be to learn how to travel through time and space, Doctor Who-style... :) Maybe you know?
