About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mission is to meet every single person in the whole wide world at least twice!

ABOUT ME

I'm a writer and have published my first fiction book and am busy completing a handful of others. I have a black belt in Shotokan karate and was an instructor of both karate and kick boxing for 4 years. I have completed my degree majoring in English and Creative Writing in a Bachelor of Arts and took a year off and travelled Europe for 5 months. In 2011 I finished my Honours year at uni and I am in my third year of a PhD in Creative Writing. Our next big trip is the US but we'd love to check out more of Asia and definitely revisit Japan! So many places, so little time!

PHILOSOPHY

These two quotes sum up what I think perfectly!
"I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." - S. Grellet

"Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood."- Marie Curie

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In 2008 I had an awesome time staying with the best people on earth! Those who welcomed me with open arms are expected to come and visit me soon or else!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I guess my first non official couchsurfing experience was in Germany in 2004. I stayed with a wonderfully kind and friendly family in Germany when I was 17 for 6 weeks. I had my own little apartment downstairs which was awesome especially to relax in and try to digest all the new things I'd done and people I'd met!

Officially I have now couchsurfed my way around the UK and a few places in Greece and have met so many great people that are now friends. We've had the odd person stay with us, but we'd love to have more! Couchsurfing rocks!

Interests

Writing, traveling, exploring, hanging out with friends, going to the beach, hiking, running, kayaking, reading, singing (although badly), drawing, meeting new people, listening to new, old and odd music!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies that are a mixture of action, adventure, SF and fantasy. My favourite bands are Florence + The Machine, Imagine Dragons, Keeper Lover Seeker, Muse and heaps of others. My favourite author is Ray Bradbury though I could list hundreds more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My boyfriend and I were invited by a friend to go sailing with him and his friend. In the end our friend wasn't able to make it and we had to make the choice whether to go anyway with someone we barely knew or not go. We ended up going sailing as it was such a beautiful day and by the time we got out onto the open water and the sun was beaming down on us, it didn't matter that we didn't know the guy.

Then WHOOSH! No more than 20 metres from our yacht, a massive whale exploded from the water and flipped, crashing back into the ocean. You can imagine our surprise. In Australia it's illegal to be a certain distance to whales so we pulled in the sails and decided to wait, allowing the whale to move further out to sea. We could hear her moaning voice under deck and we searched out on the horizon to try and get another glimpse of her; however, we didn't see anything for another 20 minutes. We almost died of fright when right next to our yacht, a mere metre away from us, a calf (a baby whale) breached and watched us with one big liquid eye. The baby circled our boat to our hysterical exclamations of excitement before waving us goodbye with its massive tail. We caught it all on my boyfriend's camera and every time I watch it I get this amazing rush! It was the most impressive thing I've ever seen and totally unexpected. I'm so glad that we decided to go out on the boat and with that one experience, everyone on that boat was linked forever!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am willing to teach self defense to everyone I meet as I think it's vitally important that everyone knows how to protect themselves and their family. I want to learn how to communicate in many languages! I want to share stories and experiences about traveling and life!
