ABOUT ME
Here's a letter i wrote instead of a job application:
Dear Bacon Bacon [a Bacon food truck in San Francisco that i would like to work for],
I am a bacon aficionada, writer, reader, eater, idea purveyor, and I fancy myself a pretty good cook. I think it would be mutually beneficial for us to chat about a relationship between myself and Bacon Bacon.
1. I am a bacon aficionada
I like bacon. A lot. I like it with eggs, pancakes, chocolate, kale, wrapped around chicken, wrapped around hot dogs, glazed in maple syrup, glazed in honey, candied on ice cream, plain on a plate; I like it in slices, in bits, crunchy, chewy, greasy; I even like turkey bacon. One time, I tasted a beggin' strip intended for my dog, because I was curious how it would taste. It wasn't terrible, though I probably won't do that again.
2. I am a writer
I like to write. I could definitely write about bacon. I'm awesome with alliteration. Rhyming is my jam. And don't even get me started on puns. I'll even write a haiku (or multiple haiku) if the job requires it. I can write formal prose, but what really gets me going is quirky, direct and colloquial language (with a few vocab bombs for good measure). Want a blog about bacon? I'll write it. Bacon banners? Done. Bacon jokes? Comic timing isn't exactly my forte, but I'll do my best to find and deliver some good ones. If anything they'll be good on paper. I write newsletters for Visa every couple of months, which have gotten rave reviews. If I can make recurring payments sound cool, just think of what I could do with bacon!
3. I am a reader
That's another way of saying I'm smart. I went to a good college where I studied the art of balancing work and school, all while cultivating a busy social life. I read books, cookbooks, blogs, the news, and emails. I try to keep up with what's going on internationally, nationally and locally, because I value wit, and you can't be witty if you're ignorant. I'm sure there's a plethora of bacon-related knowledge that I don't have, so I'll read about it, research it, and ultimately become the authority on the topic.
4. I am an eater
I love, love bacon. But I have a confession. And I hope this isn't a deal breaker. Bacon isn't my number one food, as much as I love it. My number one is actually pizza. In fact, you guys should make a bacon-topped pizza. I'd buy it. And eat it. And rave about it. ANYWAY, with a few exceptions (goat cheese, for one) I will pretty much eat anything you put in front of me, as long as it's good, and especially if it involves bacon. However, my palette is not limited to any specific cuisine or demographic. That nasty hole-in-the-wall Pho place in the Tenderloin? That's my go-to for lunch. But I also live around the corner from some of the best dinner spots in the Mission and Noe Valley, and I certainly can appreciate my 5-star food. Let's put it this way: I know good food, because I eat good food.
5. I am an idea purveyor
I am a purveyor of ideas. That's what my business card says and I'm sticking to it. I'm in the marketing business, and they like me here because I'm good at brainstorms. I've always got ideas, and I'm always willing to speak up about them. I'm not opinionated, per se, but I am not afraid to parlay my brilliance if I know it's... well, brilliant. Yeah, some ideas crash and burn, but if you don't shoot, you can't score, amiright, amiright? If anything, we should collaborate. Put our heads together. Make magic.
6. I fancy myself a pretty good cook
I could say, "I am a good cook" here. But I'm not going to lie to you guys. I've made some incredible meals for 10 people at a time, but I've also had some very humbling culinary failures. The thing is, there's room to grow. I love rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty, as the old adage goes, and I learn best from experience. Get me in the truck! Teach me how to cook bacon-themed food for a line of impatient and hangry employees on their lunch break. I'm down! My best meals are cooked for other people, not just for myself, because I love food and I love people. I have no qualms talking to strangers, especially if there is a mutual love for bacon. Or food. But I digress...
I have no idea what you guys are hiring for, or if you actually are hiring. But I know that in a kitchen or a truck or at a desk (all three, perhaps?), I'd be a bomb asset. BOOM. Call me.
