About Me

I'm back home in New Zealand after a few years of travelling. I'm back at university studying environmental science. I've travelled the world by teaching English but in the long term I care about sustainability, reforestation, conservation, etc and aim to work more in ecological restoration.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've both hosted people and stayed with others, and met some great people as a result.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've mostly hosted people from several different countries. I hope I can occasionally stay with others in return.

Interests

I love being outdoors, and grow my own food and plant trees whenever I can.

In a previous life I studied film and journalism. I also love music from around the world, reading, and the arts in general. I even make my own sometimes.

Music, Movies, and Books

I was an extra in Lord of the Rings (along with half of Wellington at the time), but you have to be quick with the pause button to spot me.

Musically I started off with folk, went through alternative rock and hip-hop to free jazz and the avant-garde, and since I got the travel bug I like anything from Korean gayageum to Macedonian bagpipes, Portuguese fado, Okinawan eisa and more. I even like classical music.

All-time favourite authors include George Orwell, Thomas Pynchon, James Joyce, Douglas Adams, Erik Davis, Philip K Dick and some of the 19th century classics. More recently I read mostly non-fiction though. I'm working my way through Charles Darwin as of this writing (surprisingly entertaining).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City in Beijing etc as an 8 year-old was an unforgettable start to my travels... then a gap til I was 25, and I've had itchy feet ever since.

Driving across Australia and later taking the train across Russia gave me a sense of the size of the planet... it's big but not that big.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm learning Spanish and Portuguese so always keen to practice those.
I hope to visit India, the Middle East and Latin America, and visit my ancestral homelands in the UK, Ireland and Portugal.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Germany, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, Japan, Montenegro, New Zealand, South Korea
