About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore the world one trip at a time

ABOUT ME

I have a very strong Finnish heritage that I enjoy exploring via language study, including programming. I'm curious and trying to discover more about the world through travel.

When the Chihuly exhibit was in Boston, MA in 2011 I went to see it and became captivated by the forms that had been created. Slowly over the course of a few months the wonder of that creative experience never left and that was when I decided to pursue glassblowing as a hobby. I've almost finished my second 12-week course at my current school and I've been loving every minute. It is a fantastic art to learn with many facets that can be explored and honed. As I travel I like to find glassblowing studios and watch the artists work for a while, as long as they don't mind an audience :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've only been able to meet up with people to chat, but I'm looking forward to finally being able to try surfing myself.

Interests

I enjoy cooking, reading, and enjoying a quality glass of beer or wine while at home. Recently a friend has gotten me into geocaching, so I'm looking forward to participating in this while out in the world. While traveling I really enjoy exploring photography and local cuisine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Where to start... J.K. Rowling, Robert Jordan, George R.R. Martin, Stieg Larsson, Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Devon Monk to name a few.

Music: John Butler Trio, Florence + the Machine, Turisas, Muse, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, and the Gutter Twins to name a handful.

Shows: I tend to enjoy BBC shows such as Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sherlock. Typically I can enjoy a great space opera as well, such as Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, and Firefly. What HBO has done with A Game of Thrones is also truly spectacular. It is a joy to watch that show to see how they bring to life what previously only existed in my imagination.

Movies: Some favorites include Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Terminator 2, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Boondock Saints, and Zombieland.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went on a brief trip to Iceland over a long Easter weekend and shortly before I departed on my trip, the Fimmvörðuháls Volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajökull Glacier occurred. I was lucky enough to go on top of the glacier and I witnessed an incredibly powerful and beautiful act of nature.

While traveling in New Zealand on the way back from a boat trip on Milford sound I elected to take a helicopter ride back to Queenstown instead of the multi-hour bus trip. The pilot brought us up and over snow capped peaks, showing us the natural beauty of the country. We landed on top of one of the glaciers and were able to get out to snap some photos and throw some snowballs around. That is one my best memories from that trip. The only other one that can compete was when I went on a tour to Edoras (Mt. Sunday). That filming location was gorgeous; it was breathtaking to stand where they made some of my favorite scenes from the movies :)
